AMD Has Triplets; Three New GPUs Coming Soon
Posted by Haroon Malik at 9:50 PM on December 14, 2007
AMD has just announced they shall be releasing three new graphics processors. The R680 is the new model grabbing all the attention, thanks to its dual 55nm processor core. AMD were clear in stating the 55nm processors are identical to those used in an earlier model, but the older RV670 GPU contained only one 55nm Phenom processor. The R680 will bring twice the fun with its dual core goodness and CrossFireX support.AMD are also set to revise two existing models, the RV610 and RV630, which will both be treated to new 55nm processors, but shall remain otherwise identical. We know that Phenom cores have had a tough time courting favour with the experts, and though the new AMD triplet seem great on paper, we'll reserve judgment till they are unwrapped and put to the test. The products will all hit next month. Happy New Year, gamers. [Daily Tech]

I like how it doesn't say ATI once in the article!

what 55-nm phenom are you talking about? Phenom is the quad-core CPU, it is not a GPU.

I'd like to know when the Intel Quad is out and when we can get SSDrives in a laptop at a decent price.
Also when is 64 bit XP Pro with a Vista/Leopard/Kubuntu look. All powered with fuel cell and LCD backlit.
Actually I am hoping Apple or Sony make these machines as dual boot - so we can have a twin OS to mess with XP for work and the other for home/hobby.
AMD - has been around a lot longer than many based on its business model, so deserves a lot of praise. I am most interested in seeing them with a NVidia 'onboard' quad motherboard and superfast bus.

@strider_mt2k: I feel the same way and I built a brand new gaming box just last Jan. Going by Arstechnica's techie gift wish-list building myself a new box is almost required. Especially since the box I built last year doesn't support PCIe and has an outdated socket type for the proc.
:'-(

I'm not loyal to nVidia or ATI - I hop to whoever has the best card when I need to buy. I'd love to see some gaming benchmarks for their new flagship - say in FEAR cranked up with all bells and whistles, Crysis and UT3. Hopefully ATI will do better this time I like competition.
