Nintendo Going After Wii Mod Chip Sellers in Germany

Posted by Adrian Covert at 5:26 PM on December 2, 2007

wii.jpgShowing that they're not one to be hacked without a fight, Nintendo issued cease and desist notices to 16 German shops it believes are selling Wii mod chips. In addition, Nintendo is demanding the name of the mod chip manufacturer. With mod chips serving more purpose than to merely play import titles on a given console, it makes sense Nintendo is concerned. Who knows, maybe they could do something CRAZY, like issue a firmware update that bricks all Wii's with mod chips. [Heise via I4U]

Why Some NBC Shows Are Still on iTunes Music Store

Posted by Adrian Covert at 10:31 AM on December 2, 2007

zach%20levi.JPGToday NBC pulled their lineup (including NBC owned sites, such as Sci-Fi and Bravo), and ended their deal with the iTunes Music Store after a little catfight they had with Apple and El Jobso. However, as Italian blog setteB.IT points out, some shows from NBC owned networks are still up on iTunes, leading some people to ask, WTF?

Posted by Mark Wilson at 9:15 AM on December 2, 2007

motorola-zine.jpgWe've already covered a juicy rumour about Motorola developing Motorola Z10 successors known as "Zine". Hmm...maybe that's Zines when pluralised. Anyway, Motorola has filed a trademark for "Zine" in relationship to the following huge blockquote of smartphone technology categories.

The Wii is MORE Expensive This Year Than Last

Posted by Mark Wilson at 8:30 AM on December 2, 2007

wiimoney.jpgI4U points out that when acquiring some Wiis from wholesalers, they were surprised to find that the price had increased from last year. While the Wii retails for $US250, in 2006 they had to settle for a $US476.11 pricetag for just the Wii system. This year, that number has inflated to $US538.80. Continue on for rant.

Corvette Speedboat Comes Equipped With Actual 505-HP 'Vette Engine

Posted by Adrian Covert at 7:45 AM on December 2, 2007

corvettespeedboat.jpgIf Ben Heck modded speedboats, I like to think it'd turn out similar to Malibu's Z06 Corvette Speedboat, which is Frankensteined with a 505-HP LS7 Corvette Engine. Every aspect of the boat, from the hull right down to the trailer it rides on, is influenced by the design of the Corvette. Looks like that Ferrari-powered boat from One Crazy Summer finally has some competition in the water. More photos over at [Jalopnik].

Posted by Mark Wilson at 7:00 AM on December 2, 2007

The Sony TZ91 is available in two flavours. You can get the computer with a standard 5400rpm hard drive, or you can load it up with a 64GB solid state drive (for around a $1150 price premium). Check out this video to watch the SSD toast the moving hard drive by about 12 seconds when booting up. So just what is your time worth again? [sysadmingear]

Concept Superyacht is More Super Than Superman

Posted by Haroon Malik at 6:15 AM on December 2, 2007

Superyacht%20Focus%2021%20France.jpgThe international yacht show, which ran earlier this year, saw some crazy yachts on display. Best of the bunch had to be the Superyacht concept, by Focus 21 France. Yachts are generally pretty super in their standard yacht state, but the Superyacht can fly, and that makes it the daddy.

Google Street View Blurs Faces, Still Shows Privates

Posted by Mark Wilson at 5:30 AM on December 2, 2007

1143065774_0c27325961_o.jpgGoogle Street View will soon cease to be fun. Because while we were once able to enjoy the antics of strangers photographically busted outside of kiddie strip clubs, Google has announced that they will begin blurring all faces and licence plates in Europe's soon-to-be-launched version of Google Street View. And according to a Google rep, the US will likely follow in the future. Seriously though, this is good news.

If only so Haroon can finally argue to his "girlfriend" that maybe it wasn't him...sitting in his car...filled to the brim with scantily clad transvestite hookers. [infoworld via therawfeed and image]

Tokyo Is No Longer One of Top 10 Expensive Cities

Posted by Mark Wilson at 3:36 AM on December 2, 2007

MarkTokyo.jpgWe write about Japan and its geek mecca Tokyo with some frequency here on Giz, which is why we found this recent census data so interesting. Tokyo slipped from the 10th most expensive city in the world to 13th, according to a survey by ECA International. The survey factors in the city's price of things like food, clothing and electronics to decide rankings. And Bloomberg cites the strength of yen as the reason for this price shift. Here's the full, tokyoless top 10 list:
