Wal-Mart Selling Wiimote Knockoff, Perfect for a Stepchild Stocking Stuffer
Posted by Matt Buchanan at 6:00 PM on November 5, 2007
Usually this kind of awesome is relegated to Chinatown shops, but this fake Wiimote produced by LA-based ToyQuest is available in that most red-blooded of American institutions, Wal-Mart. The $10 to $15 Wiimote-"inspired" toy actually features motion controls for the built-in game, but thanks to the tiny, cruddy screen you can't see anything when you're waving it around, making it impossible to play. But it does rattle when you shake it, making it the closest thing around to Wii Samba di Amigo maracas. [About]

I always got Twinkies and a screwdriver from my step-dad... So I guess this might have been a step up?

Isn't this just another type of controller? I mean they sell those MadCats controllers for all kinds of systems. Wouldn't that place this in that same category?

Any parent that gives this to their kid for Christmas is an asshole.

@x23: Because Wal-Mart's buying power ia simply amazing. The percentage of the U.S.'s (and the world's) goods which are sold through Wal-Mart is staggering.... you definitely don't tell Wal-Mart to go to hell...

I saw these at a Target a month or two ago, so it's not just Wal-mart with them.

@jamar0303: Nintendo can't just tell the worlds largest retailer to go to hell.

Even if they can't be sued, I'm sure Nintendo can tell them "no, you can't carry the Wii anymore". People looking for Wiis would go elsewhere, and then Nintendo would REALLY have grounds to sue if the Wal-mart people directed people searching for Wii stuff to this after such an action.

interesting. i agree on the lawsuit except that walmart is not dumb. wonder if they think they have THAT much clout to just think they can tell nintento 'tough sh*%'?

@Noxdesign
This is not a controller for the Wii. It is a stand-alone, crappy electronic game by itself.

@Dirk: Regardless of Wal-Mart's reach within the US, the Wii will sell-out when it comes in stock at BestBuys or any other retailer.
@Bender: Target doesn't sell Wiis. They sell the controllers though.

This is something you give a four or five year old-they think they've got a controller like yours, and maybe they'll keep their little hands off of your Wii controller. By the time they figure out the difference, it'll be broken anyway. I think it's a kinda neat diversion for the kids.

In this day and age, when Wal-Mart has so much retailing clout they can muscle vendors into reducing prices just to put their products on the shelves? I have to say, not likely.

@Dirk: I tell Wal-mart a surprisingly large variety of things, most of which involve the company and everything it is affiliated with going to hell.

@Dirk: What's worse- Nintendo being possibly associated with these due to dumb people (we're talking Wal-mart shoppers here- I used to be one, and I felt the difference when I went elsewhere to shop) or Wal-mart losing business due to people running elsewhere to get the Wii? Besides, Wal-mart's not the first place I think of going to to get anything electronic. It'd be Best Buy.

I saw this in a Wal-mart this (last) summer, then I sent the tip in to nintendowiifanboy.com.
I can't believe the crap this knockoff company losers can get away with.
