Think Geek's SIM Card Backup Gadget Saves Your Contacts
Posted by Jennifer Hooker at 6:30 AM on November 17, 2007
If you've ever had the nightmarish experience of trying to retrieve all your peeps' phone numbers after you lost your phone, you may want Think Geek's SIM card backup gadget. The device has 16KB memory, which is enough to stow away up to 500 numbers. The shiny $15 backerupper can be password protected for added security, and can receive and transfer contact info from multiple SIMs. It may just be the thing to save your sanity—along with that hot chick from bar's digits. Working in the field, my SIM card has seen more use then a $3 whore. I am very much afraid that one day it will stop functioning, and I very much do not want to retype all those numbers again. I also have a bad tenancy to leave my phone in the office, as my phone changes shape, size, and color often day-to-day, and I often do no know what I will have "in my pockets'z".
I acquired this device from ThinkGeek, actually received it yesterday, and fell in love with it. VERY easy to Use, and VERY much worth the cost for what it may one day spare me from retyping.
I recommend it fully. The ability to copy 4 SIM cards, and save them in memory, a clock with date functionality, The option of password protection. A very easy interface. While it is a little larger then it looks in the picture, I still fully recommend it.

Sounds pretty cool, even though I back up my contacts and data to my computer daily. One criticism I have, though, is that a device dedicated to nothing more than data backup should have more than 16KB memory. I mean, my SIM has 64KB memory and if this thing can support 4 cards, it should have at least 512KB (for future SIM card growth), especially with the price of flash memory nowadays.

I bought one of these before it went to Think Geek.
It's a good little tool, especially if you a carrier that will charge you for transferring your phone numbers to a new SIM or you can't afford the software. It's ridiculously easy to use, and you can also look numbers up with out the SIM card in it.

If you have Verizon, use www.getbackupnow.com. It synchs with your phone daily so you can always access your numbers on-line. If you set up a My Account, it is free.

Who stores their numbers on their SIM any more?
And carriers give these things away where I live.
