The Writers Guild of America strike is officially on, thanks largely to disputes over payments from DVD sales and content delivered through the intertubes. [NYT]

@Bokusatsu_Tenshi:
I have to disagree. For the 50,000 plus IATSE film and television technicians this could mean a lot of lost wages and work when movies/television shows are not going into production. In the end, when the producers/studios give in on the demands it will again be the technicians who face the worst as producers will attempt to recoup by re-negotiating for lower wages. Consumers also face similar situations where producers/studios demand higher movie ticket prices, higher dvd/download prices, and more from TV ad revenue, passing the increase down with higher prices on products. So yes, while the majority of content has not been the greatest (this has always been the case with Hollywood; by example see any C-film from the 30's on, or read "What Makes Sammy Run" for an insider look) it doesn't mean nothing of value was lost to this strike; mainly work, wages, and lower costs of products and services.
