The Tech in a Pioneer's Kuro Plasma in About 50 Words
Posted by Brian Lam at 6:13 PM on November 18, 2007
A concise and elegant description of the tech that makes Pioneer's Kuro blacker, from Pop Sci this month:
"Each tiny cell in the [plasma] screen must be primed with an electric charge so it's ready to fire up quickly, and that charge turns blacks slightly gray. Pioneer designed cells that require far less charge...Then it added a screen filter that further dampens excess light and reflects less room light."The 1080p models fresh out of the oven and according to a few who've played with them, the best sets out there now. the end result is really beautiful for film and video.
haven't tried it on any games or TV, but hooked to a bluray... the pioneers are really pretty sets.

ya, but when hooked up to a 1080i source their 1080p is less than 1080p :p
trust me, it's funny in context.

I saw the Kuro in person at a Pioneer store. It was the most impressive television I've ever seen. The black levels are amazing.

@gee2: Well of course not. I'm assuming it takes the most current to produce a white pixel, therefore "whites have all the power". [ducks]

Have the done the same for whites? No? Clearly racist.

@untime: I was referring to the typo in the title, nothing more. Thanks for your ambition none-the-less :)

@EMoShunz:
They don't have the Pioneer 1080P plasmas in that list. Only an old 768 one. I believe all Pioneer plasmas have 3:2 inverse telecine, at least the new Kuro ones do for sure.
Friend of mine just got the 60" Pioneer 1080P TV ... it's like a religious experience watching it.

I love my 7th gen version of Pioneer's plasma panels. I have yet to see the new Kuro up close and personal and I'm almost afraid to. I've seen photo comparisons of the 7th-gen vs. Kuro side by side and what Pioneer has achieved is remarkable even in digital photos. Sadly, with my Pio only being a year old I don't see an upgrade happening any time soon.

Black Friday deals on this TV? LOL, not a chance. They have the best flat panel on the market hands down. They have no reason to sling a $5k+ TV as a doorbuster.
