Taser Flying Saucer Drone on the Way
Posted by Charlie White at 2:29 AM on November 28, 2007
Get out of the way everybody! Here comes a Taser Flying Saucer from France. A company headed by Taser distributer Antoine di Zazzo is working on an unmanned "mini flying saucer" that will be able to zap electric hell from above onto rioting crowds, malcontents and evildoers.
Zazzo says his hovering shocker will be raining down the pain sometime next year, and could even find its way to these shores. Pushbutton Tasering from a distance? Sounds like an insane idea. This whole Taser concept has gone way too far, but we suppose it's better than mass murdering crowds of people. [Danger Room]

The best response would obviously be to throw a towel over it, and hot-wire the happiness circuits.

@yehoni:
"far better to have a non-lethal weapon hitting more of the crowd than an only mostly non-leathal one hiting even the occasional non-threat"
your confusing words have only mostly tazered your meaning which, at this point, is far funnier than fully non-tazering what you meant to say by using the occasional edit before you post... but it's Ok, i did it yesterday with the Ron Jeremy-Mario thing.

@Sublimenaltouches: Weapons like this are intended for use on *armed* people hiding *among* unarmed civilians. There's potential for abuse with any weapons system, lethal or not, but the goal here is to deal with threats in a crowd. Right now, the best options are rubber bullets and tear gas, both of which injure and kill far too often, and both of which have a strong chance of injuring or killing those who weren't the intended target in the first place. Far better to have a non-lethal weapon hitting more of the crowd than an only mostly non-lethal one hitting even the occasional non-threat.

yup. because it makes sense. after all, all of our language was made up at some time or another. technically, a laser lases, but i cannot lase something with a laser. but i do, anyways, and call it that, since saying im illuminating something with a laser doesn't convey the badassness that lasing something does.

I just realized that this thing would end up being targeted by protesters with rocks, shoes, whatever is available. If this thing hit the ground and as a last resort the controller decided to set it off I wonder what it would do to the people right next to it or someone who happened to fall right on top of it. Now *that's* a lawsuit.

considering the UN just decided tasering is a form of torture, and there have been record numbers of taser related deaths and rampant abuses of the devices this year from local law enforcement... well, i'll be shocked if this product doesn't take off

Every time authoritarian groups come up with a violent way to control legitimate protesters, they invite equal countermeasures.

@quendiljt: The beautiful thing about language is that the users of that language get to make the language. The more a word is used the more likely it will get added to the dictionary of official words. My teacher always used to say that ain't isn't a word because it is not in the dictionary. I heard that it is now so I wish I could find that b*tch so I could tell her "you ain't gonna believe this"

this is what scares me the most, not deadly force or nuclear bombs but the semi-lethal weapons for subsiding large groups of UNARMED CIVILIANS. since when are unarmed civilians such a threat? seems to me like this technology is being pushed for a reason other than keeping the peace.

shining a laser at something isn't called lasing it, because LASER is an acronym. Taser is also sort of an acronym, so why do we call zapping someone with a taser tasing them?
