Sony's X-Ramen Radar Finds Hot Noodles Wherever You Are
Posted by Adam Frucci at 3:42 AM on November 2, 2007
Here's an unexpected product from Sony: ramen radar. Yeah, it's a piece of software designed to help you find a ramen noodle shop wherever you are. Now, as someone who's gone on the record about his near-obsession with ramen, this sounds pretty amazing to me, albeit also kind of ridiculous. The X-Ramen Radar works by using Sony's PlaceEngine system that uses a database of local WiFi hotspots to determine your location, then cross-references it with a database of ramen shops. Or something, it's a little confusing and Japan-only. It could clearly be used for anything, but the fact that it's made exclusively for ramen joints just makes it a real head scratcher. Shouldn't the title "Sony's X-Ramen Rader Finds Hot Noodles Wherever You Are" be "Sony's X-Ramen Radar Finds Hot Noodles Wherever You Are"?
I eat ramen much too often. It tastes good, especially if you take liberties with how you prepare it (i.e., using things other than just the included flavoring packets), but the main reasons I eat it are that it is cheap and I am poor.

Yeah, once you've had REAL ramen in Tokyo, you just won't ever go back, and realize the absolute genius of this device.

Ramen in Japan isn't really that bad for you. It's usually fresh made noodles with a beef/soy broth, and some onions/veggies/slice of meat on top.
It's high in carbs, but you'll need it for walking around the streets of Tokyo.

@banmojo:
word. i switched from coffee to carrot and apple juice in the morning and i feel much better all around. i tried the all raw diet for 2 weeks last year, and again - you feel incredible (but always hungry) Soda IS terrible shit. Ive heard the best compromise is to eat something like 75% raw fruits / veggies / legumes / fungus and 25% whatever you want.

when I lived in S Korea I read their gov did a study to 'prove' that ramen in fact was nutritious. They covered up the results (showed that ramen in fact is full of salt/MSG/shite) because most people in S Korea eat ramen almost daily. I used to eat it in high school a lot, but really - it's such artificial shite. People need to realize that what they put into their bodies will influence how much energy they feel they have, their mood, their immune system, their longevity and overall health. Raw fruits, veges, nuts - this is the diet the human body utilizes the best. And lay off the soda, it's killing you softly.

I am obsessed with ramen too! I started eating it on a long distance bicycle ride, out of convenience, and now, months later, I am still eating it every day.

@nutbastard: Try Tom Tom. You can have that sorta "always up" view or you can switch to 'up' always being north. It also shows you shit in your vicinity with little icons. You can have it show you whatever the hell you want.
I love Tom Tom on my HTC TyTN II.

There's only one feature I care about on this gadget: sound effects.
Does this thingamajig do either a submarine ping or the cool motion-detector beepy thing from Aliens?

why cant i get a gps unit thats circular and rotates the view etc. like in GTA? I've gotten used to the whole rotate the map so you are always driving UP from playing too much SA, and I dont need to fiddle with touchscreens... just give me a MAP with little icons for peoples houses and shit. when i go out, i dont "plan" where im "going" or what im going to "do". Destination? i wont know that till i get there! just show me where things are. AND... give me a "Ramen Mode".

meh - this only works on XP/Vista. I thought it would work on a mobile. Anyways, you're within a stones throw of a ramen shop in most major cities.
Looks like on November 8th, they'll have a cafe finder. (I'll stick with the delicious swill that is Boss coffee from the vending machines.)

I'll say it once, I'll say it a million times. RAMEN HAS NO NUTRITIONAL VALUE. Read: The same nutritional value as a piece of cardboard. A rock or handful of DIRT has more nutritional value.

@samueladamski: @Amiash: You boneheads actually believe ramen started as a 25 cent freeze dried meal? Millions of people have lived their entire lives with "real" ramen as the main staple for hundreds of years. That crap you are basing your ignorant blithering about was not even manufactured until 1970 or so.
