Security Camera Captures Image of Ghost?
Posted by Charlie White at 6:30 AM on November 14, 2007
A surveillance camera at a Parma, Ohio gas station caught some footage of what appeared to be a ghost last Sunday, and passersby were immediately calling the blue cloud an angel, attributing it to buried Indians from long ago, and evoking all sorts of supernatural beings.
One guy might've had it right: Maybe it was a plastic bag. Could it have been an out-of-focus blue plastic bag dancing around with the wind like that one in the film American Beauty? Could an image artifact like this have been caused by a cheap security camera? In this video, it's unclear whether people saw this "ghost" with their own eyes, or just watched a video of it. Mysterious. Pranksters at work? [Liveleak, via Neatorama]

It's night time at a well-lit gas station... it's a bug crawling on the lens - if you watch the last view in the video you can actually tell that it's crawling on the lens.
If I really cared, I could find out what kind of bug it is pretty quickly as well (need to know if the color is true or if the camera's sensor is filtering or not filtering specific frequencies like UV and IR which are common).

Not to burst anyone's bubble, but cases such of this are most likely insects. If you remember the case of the ghost caught on the security camera at the Santa Fe courthouse, it has been proven to be bugs.

the only issue with it being a bug is that the blue image when it "floats" upwards appears to go outside the gas station's roof. If it was something on the lens, it would been seen on top of the station's roof.

It actually moves like an insect. Could be the digital color correction giving it the bright blue hue. I've seen small green insects before, so it could easily be that and because it's too close to the iris it's completely out of focus.
I bet if that camera had an autofocus you'd find a small bug walking around on the lens.

While it is likely something on the lens, there are so many places that something could be going on. It could be in front, on or behind the CCD. If it's an older camera there are so many places for a critter or condensed vapor to hide. It could be in the camera signal processor. It could be at the recording source.
My bet is that it is a silver fish hanging out on the back of the CCD assembly, where for some reason there are exposed contact points.

@techmuse:
The only possible way to ascertain what is it is by trying to duplicate what some people stated. Some say it is a plastic bag floating around. You duplicate that and it will be one less factor to worry about and then we go to the next one.
But I guess with all the mocking and speculations we will never know for sure.
Duplication is the only solution. Probably a paranormal group close to that place might want to follow suit and scientifically investigate this one.

Actually, if you freeze frame the image, it is clearly a cartoon face that has been blurred out. If you go frame by frame right after the person in the white car goes out of focus (and they zoom in), you can see the cartoon image very clearly. Not a plastic bag at all. Funny though.
