Samsung: Official Response on BlackJack Issues
In case you haven't heard, a rumour has been floating around today stating that AT&T may recall certain BlackJacks due to an antenna issue that could result in poor reception and dropped calls. Reaction to the story by the Samsung camp was swift.
The official word is that there is not going to be a recall, but users of a small number of BlackJack devices purchased between Nov. 2006 and Feb. 2007 may be entitled to an exchange if they are experiencing an inordinate amount of dropped calls. If that sounds like you, check out the official Q and A below.
Q: What is the nature of the product advisory issued by ATT and Samsung regarding the SGH-i607 BlackJack?
A: First, there is no recall of product. Some customers who purchased the Samsung BlackJack i607, which was manufactured during the months of November 2006 - February 2007, may find they are experiencing dropped calls or poor signal reception.
Q: What should I do if I am experiencing these issues with my BlackJack phone?
A: If you are experiencing these issues, contact AT&T's Exchange by Mail (XBM) program at 1-800-801-1101. The XBM representative will assist customers with devices built in the timeframe by exchanging their device for another.
Q: How can I tell when my phone was manufactured?
A: The date will be located on the lower right hand side of the identification sticker in the battery compartment. It is in the format of yy.mm.
Q: What has Samsung done to correct the issue?
A: Samsung has implemented some design changes to fix these issues and there have been no issues with call performance with all new hardware manufactured from and after March 2007.

If you exchange that way, they will just send you a refurbished Blacjack to replace it. I have seen numerous accounts of peoples "replacement" phones having the same problems. It took me about 90 min, but I was finally able to convince the "Retention Department" to send me a "New" Blackjack instead.

So, the Moto Q sucked, as we all know, and the Blackjack is hearby flawed. I guess the venerable T-Mo DASH was the winner of that war.

Well after 45 minutes on the phone with a combative rep, I decided to call it quits. Both with trying to get a replacement phone. And with AT&T. I've been shopping for a new carrier anyway.
The rep, who was about as smart as my dog, stated the phone likely had water damage since the sticker was not pink. Yes, NOT PINK(!) Little does she realize that it's BLACK until it gets wet. Water damage = PINK DOT.
Also - before that nonsense, I was able to find out that they WILL NOT SEND A NEW HANDSET. They send you a refurb.
Enjoy.

I have an even better incident with AT&T crap ppl. I called in for having my phone replaced, but since my phone is "physical" damaged (tiny crack in the phone), they want $265 in replaceement. My company buys these phone for a max of $150 (new, not refurbished) because we have a business account, so why the hell do they want me to pay $265. Actually, I should not even be paying a dime as there was a problem with the phone already. They are not budging from having me to pay for the damaged phone. Can I sue them for this?

I wish you(Gizmodo) could have asked Samsung when they are officially releasing the Windows Mobile 6 update for the Blackjack. It's way past when they said they were going to release it(Q3 I think?), and they haven't made information available as to why it's taking so long to release the update. What makes things even more annoying is that there are like 3 unofficial WM6 ROMs floating around on the internet, but still nothing official from Samsung yet.
