O'Neill H4 Campack is a Self-Contained Ski Video Shooting Studio
Posted by Charlie White at 4:30 AM on November 27, 2007
If you want an easy way to record your skiing adventures, this O'Neill H4 Campack hooks up to its own helmet-mounted camera, letting you control its portable media player/recorder with a huge record button on the shoulder strap. The player nestled inside has enough battery power for recording four hours of your winter sports hijinks. It's packing a paltry 512MB in its internal flash drive, but then you can insert a 2GB SD card and record 160 minutes more. Besides all that video goodness, it also functions as a roomy backpack. Shooting those videos for YouTube was never easier, but it's certainly been cheaper—this backpack configuration is €269 ($A460). [O'Neill, via Talk2myShirt and Dailymotion]

Also, why would one get 4 hours of video from the on-board 512mb, then only 160 minutes (i.e., 2.5 hours) from a further 2gb of storage?
It does not make sense. If Chewbacca lives on Endor, you must acquit.

I like how the majority of the video is NOT from the camera. Actual video looked awful... nearly always giving that awesome shot of the front half of the board doing something that might be cool if you had any perspective. whooo hoo (not)

Points to boardstupid on that... A little late in the game with some outdated specs... the manual for this says it only takes 320x240 ASF files. For over 400 bucks? Lame.

I've just bought a little "head-cam" shall we say, and it's a WAY cheaper alternative. Bung in a 2GB SD card, strap it to your head, and away you go. It was only £90 ($186ish) so I can spend the other $236 on more than just a backpack.

You say "ski" and the video is all snowboarding. Good job :). Oh your coolness roundup is great!

Or you can make your own for considerably less:

We had a version with a DV camcorder and one using CF cards and the Neuros MP4 Recorder. The one improvement we need to make is how to make sure the lens is not rotated during use. Some kind of fast playback feature would be really helpful.

@Harlan: It says the battery is good for 4 hours of recording not the memory. This thing is way over priced.
