Mugged Hipster iPod touch Commercial
Posted by Matt Buchanan at 6:00 AM on November 22, 2007
I hope this turns into a real series of ads, if only for the schadenfreude value. It's pretty great: Annoying guy plays with iPod touch on subway, gets his gear jacked and laments all the "sweet features" he lost, like the calendar for scheduling photo shoots with bands and stuff. Now all he can do is wistfully stroke the box until he goes back to the Apple Store. [College Humor via TechEBlog]

Actually, it's not the player/iPhone that's drawing attention. It's the "Mug me!" white headphones that make people such a target.
Your average person apparently thinks that you need to use those earbuds, to make sure that everyone around you knows how hip you are. Or something.

This is a great selling point for the Zune: it's safer. No self-respecting mugger will ever jack you for your Zune.

first, I hate all the people I know that ake music videos. To a one they are unexceptional talentless mouthbreathers that are adept at shmoozing their way into such sweet jobs. This is why all videos you see suck. They are winging it.
2nd, I live in HARD ASS Oakland. Too Short Baby. Hyphy.
I tuck my ipod cable inside my shirt/hoodie and then through a little hole I cut in the front pocket of the hoodie, or into my pants pocket. Just a tiny white cable fro collar to ear.
Or I just use some beat up old V600's. Nobody with a hip young ipod would plug some fugly old headphones like that into it! He must have one of those pocket 8track players.

I like that guy. He's sympathetic without being pathetic. And it's a very well done commercial-parody. Sad if it's true.

They lay it wait for what increasingly yummy morsel is hidden at the end of those mugme white earbuds - like whalers waiting for blowholes! iTaser anyone?

I have to say, I'm sure that my crackberry-esque addiction to checking and sending email on my iPhone is going to get me beat-the-$#!+-up on these streets of NYC one day soon.
Unless I get hit by a taxi crossing the street while convulsing with laughter, listening to SModcast.
Or just kicked in the nuts on the subway while looking at pictures of family and listening to Stevie Wonder because it's irritating to see somebody fiddling with a touch screen and grinning from ear to ear.
Either way, I'm fully aware that this little gadget will be the death (or at least serious hurt) of me.

I'm not getting the point of this ad.
@DustyButt:
5'7" is an elf to you? 5'10" is the average adult male height in the states, 5'5" female. He was alluding to teenagers.

I use the white earbuds because I like the mic/button. I am ready for a fight.

@Sqube: Well, on the iPhone, the little "clicker" between calls and music is pretty nice.
*Ow...why'd you have to hit me on the head like that!?!*

@itchytooth:
The mic/button also exists on better sounding, non-white earbuds:

This is why I carry pepper spray. It's served me well in the past. It's quite the shock when they ask for your wallet and get a face full of burning instead.

I know how he feels.
I got mugged two weeks back and got my iPhone stolen, no joke.
But in the end you just gotta let things go....I mean, worse things could happen. I ended up getting a free AT&T phone and just today I broke down and got an 8GB iPod touch.
The madness......
