Lancôme Makes Itself Useful With Unique Magnetic Nail Polish Gadget for Gals
Posted by Charlie White at 12:31 AM on November 6, 2007
Overpriced makeup purveyor Lancôme decided to actually do something innovative for a change rather than just creating fancy containers. The result is a Le Magnetique, nail polish with different-colored magnetic particles mixed in. Here's where Lancôme's specialty, the container, comes into play. While the polish is still wet, hold the container's sleeve next to that goop on your nails, and the shiny metallic particles organize themselves into charming starburst patterns. Those magnetically organized designs are even more noticeable in direct sunlight. Get yourself a bottle for $17 and try it out yourself. Told ya it was overpriced. [All Lacquered Up, via bb Gadgets]

@HDC: I'm not sure if the particles in the nail polish are actually magnetized. The description says they're "shiney metallic particles" that get formed by the magnet on the bottle.

I wonder how strong the magnetism is in this stuff. So strong that you shouldn't hold RAM chips or fondle drives? I see an experiment in the making.....

I know this means I've been living under a rock, but to me the big news here is that there are entire blogs devoted to nail polish.

This uses the same theory in alligning reflaective chips that car companies have been using for the last couple of years...makes it cool in and of itself.

No one says teeny bopper anymore, though I agree that they're probably the target audience.

Considering the brand name, its not much more expensive than their regular polish. The better brands usually hold up bext, no chipping, etc.
With just the one pattern though, I dont think it will sell very well as ladies love unique patterns the stencil designs that most are using now are available in thousands of styles, all more interesting than a stat burst.

They shouldve designed it to be used with a magnetic stylus or something, more patterns would see this selling much better. Girls dont like to wear the same thing everyday, even on their nails.

I would get this and play with the various small magnets I have laying around that I've snagged from packages that used magnetic closures. Or maybe break a small earth magnet and glue it to a stick or something. Either way, starburst schmarburst.
