Geek Couture: PS2 Inspired Bling Edition
Posted by Haroon Malik at 5:30 AM on November 26, 2007
Even the jewellers at Tiffany's would be impressed by the mix of precious stones and metals thrown into this PS2 controller neck pendant. The ridiculously geeky piece is constructed from 18k white gold, with 68.34ct of black diamonds lining the controller's surface.
We were not so sure you could get 68.34ct of diamonds all in one place without owning a bank, but apparently we were wrong. Still, we are guessing the price is a little over the usual you would pay for a standard Playstation controller.
Unfortunately, we do not know what the price paid was, but we are sure the rapper, Just Blaze, saved up for weeks to be able to afford the Playstation inspired bling. Now, if a neck pendant fashioned like a diamond clad PS2 controller does not earn him some serious rapper credibility, there is something wrong with the world.
There you have it; crime doesn't pay, rapping does. Perhaps we should start a Gizmodo rapper clan, all we would need is a rival clan to aim our witty slurs at...who could that be? [BGR]

@CCM333: Does it work? "Does it work?" DOES IT WORK? Of course it works! Simply plug the clasp into the port---SHAZAAaaaM!!!!! Instant afro! Back to shallow end of the gene pool!

Just Blaze is a producer, not rapper (and a hugely successful one at that). On a relevant note, "he also recorded several tracks for the popular video games Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2004 and NBA Street Vol. 2 and is a playable character in the game as well." [en.wikipedia.org]

@jjbelsky:
Not everyone plays PS2 enough to get a diamond encrusted pendant worth probably many months salary of the average working man. Even for a rich rapper, you need to be pretty dedicated to PS2 to plop down that kinda cash for it, especially considering other rappers are sporting fake guns, rims, and other un-tech related paraphernalia in their bling. Sure says "geek" to me.

Everybody plays the PS2. There's nothing geeky about it. It's as mainstream as things get. There is also nothing geeky about diamond encrusted pendants.
So why is this geek couture, exactly? It has nothing to do with geeks.

I seriously don't get it when people find out a rapper buys something is automatically ridiculous. It's that same bigotry that made me stop rapping and abandon my child support payments to pimp out my Datsun with 84 inch wheels.

@kvstud:
Maybe, but the triangle that connects it to the chain would make a rockin' codpiece for Judas Priest.

I bet "thugs" all over NY are going to buy this and think they are king shit....ROTFLMFAO! " Yea Yea WHAT! OK!..WHAT! I'm a playa with my PS3 chain hanging down to my balls. W-www-wwidget"
Wow Sony, you're fucking desperate. Are sales from this supposed to make up for the terrible lack of sales for the PS3? Don't count on it. Sony...ah..how do I ask this....can you just not bother to make a PS4 or PS5 or PS6 or PS7 or whatever the fuck you have planed, unless you know how to balance what people want with what people need...ill break it down...great technology at a reasonable price. Just something to think about.

There can be no credibility earned for bitin' off on the Diabolical. Biz Markie has TWO of these on one chain, and was photographed with them on almost FOUR YEARS ago for an article in URB magazine. Plus the dude's got serious street AND geek cred, including having his own action figure, cartoon appearances, and
video game references in lyrics.
OH SNAP!
