Do Hit Chair: A Smashable Waste of $6000
Posted by Sean Fallon at 7:10 AM on November 1, 2007
If you can believe it, the Do Hit Chair is a a $6020, 0.04" thick steel cube that the user smashes to resemble something approaching a chair. This "customizable" seating solution was designed by Marijn van der Poll and one can only assume that the absurd price tag on this thing is some sort of art-based premium. Honestly, charging this much for something so damn stupid because it is technically a "work of art" is infuriating. In fact, it makes me want to grab a sledgehammer and break some shit. Maybe that was the point in the first place. [Product Page via Productdose via Geekologie]

Wow. That's... wow. Next time someone criticizes a print I've bought because they think it is lame, I'll point them this way.

Not surprising the design came from someone with a name like Marijuana Marijn van der Poll. I think dude spent a little too much "design time" in the coffee shops...

Damn, I'd hit that! I'd like to bang the sh|t out of that!
Also I feel badly for the companion cube, it won't try to stab you!

They should rename it to the Bong Hit Chair, 'cause that's just what you'll need to get you in the mood to wail with abandon on your steel cube, soon to become your uncomfortable chair.

I'll only pay $6k if the artist who designed it can be stuffed inside the metal cube as I "shape" and customize it into a chair.

for six grand, i expect them to actually smash it for me into something that is useable, comfortable, and conforms perfectly to my ass cheeks and groove.
otherwise i'll just buy $15 of sheet metal and a sledgehammer to smash it up, and spend $5.9 grand on two of those vibrating massage chairs.

"...available for you to hit, or hit by the designer marijn van der poll."
For $6k (plus $250 shipping) I'm pretty sure mr. van der Poll has already hit it. But will he call you in the morning?

$6000. That is ridiculously ridiculous. I think that's as far as someone can get from "art". If it is "art" than it is really stupid, and if someone wants to disagree with me..that's fine. BUUUT. If you are going to disagree and say this is art--try explaining that to the 30% of the world population that can't find food or the 14,000 people who die every day from water related problems.

Some people have too much money and not enough brains. If it had four wheels and a 1000 hp engine, Jay Leno would buy one. Yet another sign of the coming pork lips.

Wow, if he hits it for you, you need to add more than the price of the chair itself...WHY! go to Home Depot, get some sheet metal, a hammer, and a welding kit. You can have the same chair for under $100. You could even get fancy with some paints on it, and make it look better AND cost less.

eh. what a block of rubbish. you might as well get an old scrapped car, clean out the insides, and bash that out to your heart's desire...and then send it to the designer as a 'present'.

It would be more form-fittingly appropriate if the person who dropped $6K on this little metal box climbed up more than a few storys and base-jumped ass-first onto it wearing an tinfoil asshat.
