Archos is man-handling them in pricing, if those quotes are accurate. I love my 605 WiFi, and I got the 160gb model for under $400.

@EMoShunz: Never. Laptops are for laps. People such as myself want a device we can comfortably hold in our hands.

this makes me wonder...at what point do you say screw it and buy a cheap laptop?

I'm impressed, though the storage is lacking. The display more than makes up for it though.

Archos has got the PMP business down. Well, the portable video player part of it anyway. The DVR dock is great. Just record and go.
Hopefully we'll see devices like this come out on top.

even if you buy all the plug in and docks the 160gb archos is still a better price. Maybe it will drop soon after it comes out like the archos did.

@Scuba Steve: Correct, and/or the iPod touch.

These prices are getting to the point where a small laptop (Eeeeeeee) makes sense. Then again, I do like the non-lappy, holding factor and also the battery life on a dedicated PMP is better. My previous gen Cowon lasts 7+ hours when playing vids.

I have the iPod Touch and Archos 605 Wifi now - the Archos just sits in its cradle, its bulky and has an awful interface compared to the Touch, and isnt very bright (oh and the wifi is practically unusable).
The Cowon looks cool, but if you watch the demo of the Korean units on YouTube you will see that it is designed to be used with a *stylus* (NOO!!!!!!), and the reviewer said he could not get it to playback H.264 (whaaa??!!)
What suprised me the most about the Touch is how important startup, shutdown, sleep, battery life management and application change speed is important to me when using a mobile device - even my iPod classic seems slow and kilunky compared to the touch, which does whatever you want it to do instantly.
