Bored Construction Workers Turn a Digger Into a Dangerous Carnival Ride
Posted by Adam Frucci at 1:56 AM on November 14, 2007
This is what happens when you mix boredom with heavy machinery: the digger swing. Sure, it's terribly dangerous, but it does look fun. At least it looks safer than the industrial robot arm ride. [Spulch]

People like this raise the worker's comp rates for everyone :(.
Other than making it expensive for everyone else, looks cool...

They should try putting it near a pond and use it to launch out into the water. No thanks, though. I'll just watch and keep my phone out to call 911 for you guys.

FUN! My cousins own a small construction company and in the summers I worked with them and the small machinery was crazy fun to play with. I wouldnt do some of the things we did before like racing with the small bobcats with people on top of them riding it like a little pony. Was fun, and when you own your company you cant sue yourself. Although, OSHA like organizations will fine you.

Digger? Seriously? This is a tech blog, and you can't call it an excavator?
Anyhow, back in the day my coworkers and I would race excavators across a field, the only challenge was that we had to be spinning the entire time. It isn't too hard to make it across the field straight, they have steering locks, but we had to run the last hundred feet or so to cross the line, that was tough. Generally I'd make it out of the cab and about 3 steps before I fell over the first time.
Good times.

It might be a little safer if he had a harness rather than just putting one leg through a rope. I was waiting for his legs to snap off.

I was just waiting for him to lose his grip.
Can you imagine how far he'd fling and how many flips he'd do before crash-landing? Now that'd be something to watch.
ME NEXT.

And the folks who make the excavator will be sued because there is NO STICKER saying not to do this. Ahhh, natural selection in progress.

I saw this robotic arm ride in the Wisconsin Dells once. It has two seats at the end and flips you upside down and spins all over. Looked like the most vomit-inducing ride ever.
