Asus Eee Desktop Coming in 2008
Posted by Brian Lam at 8:10 PM on November 9, 2007
Jonathan Tseng, VP of marketing at Asus, promises an Eee in 2008. Like the simple, cheap Eee Laptop, it'll probably have the Eee linux interface and it won't have a monitor. [Digitimes]

I don't think a desktop is going to be as interesting as a sob-notebook... I'm pretty impressed with my Eee - here's what I've been up to: [tnkgrl.wordpress.com]

@midtoad: GO FLAMES
I went to that store when I was out visiting my parents in the summer. Thanks for the heads-up!

@erzengel: yes, you can get one twice the size for that price. Or, you can get one that size for four times the price. Do you see the appeal yet? By the way, they've sold over 100,000 already, so apparently lots of people see the point.

@emoshunz: Memory Express in Calgary (on-line store), and NCIX are two places.

If they open up the UI for some end user hacking this might be a good "thin client" replacement. I am tired of spending 500-600/unit on wyse thin client terminals..

This could be great for basic student workstations, Internet kiosks, and more. I hope they keep it tiny.

of it won't have monitor,, is like a Mac mini? by the way have you noticed that macbooks where upgraded to Santa Rosa right? Now, what about the Mac mini? Why didn't they upgrade that line too? Is this the end of the mini?

I've seen a video of the GUI of the laptop model and I'm not sure if it's over simplified OS will be as well received on a desktop model. Also, I think it'll need a larger SSD for a desktop model.

A small desktop with a fitting form factor would definitely be an alternative to the Mac mini. If they can price it competitively, and maybe up the hardware a bit, I'd consider getting one to replace my aging home computer.
Also, where monitors are concerned I like to shop independently from the computer. Why get a package deal with a mediocre display when you can just snipe the sales and get a better one for the same price.

ditching the LCD and battery and making it more or less a headless Eee ... they should be able to undercut the gOS dealio i would imagine.
does anyone know when the 1001 Eee laptop is coming out? i think i'd like it better than the 701. but most likely i'll get antsy and not feel like waiting and buy a 701 anyway...
