Alu Sled Shock-Absorbs Your Butt on Bumpy Downhill Slopes
Posted by Addy Dugdale at 11:45 PM on November 27, 2007
In the world of snow fun, there are sleds, there are tea-trays and there are even plastic bin bags (if you are a suicidal sledger, as I was in my teenage years). And then there is this, the Alu sled. Built from aluminum, the shock-absorbent silver slider has plastic runners, a handbrake, and packs up into a sexy little carry case when you're done tobogganing.
The lightweight Alu will carry up to 220 pounds, but will really lighten your wallet, as it will set you back a steep $US636. [Sci-Fi Tech]

weak! nothing beats a suicide run on a rickety old 2-runner sled. never compromise a reckless childhood!

@Tonicboy: oh.. wow, 1 person at home > a team of designers. i think if you hit a ramp you'll fall on your ass and break a leg. and then having the coolest sled isn't so much to brag about when your water proof cast slides just as well.

@ LOGANSIX:
Exactly! Where would you apply the non-nutritive cereal varnish on that thing?

This is an awful idea. They clearly have not tested it or else they would know the importance of having a low center of gravity in sledding. The many gaps and spaces between the superstructure are also perfect places to get a leg, arm or other item stuck and could easily result in broken bones in a bad fall.

This is neat, but too expensive. Traditional sleds is where it's at.

Isn't risking the bum-bruising part of what makes it fun?

Back in the day we used a VW Beetle hood...talk about suicide, we would take out everything in front of us!

Did we not learn anything from Clark Griswald?

Ah...Wilson's Hill.
We tried many designs there.
Some pieces of which I think might yet be mouldering under 25+ years of leaf litter in the woods.
This thing looks like good clean suicidal fun!

Exactly. Homemade sleds are the greatest things in the world.

Looks cool, but for $600 less I'm OK with Velcro-ing a used booster-seat to an old sled.

For that price I'll pay some poor person to carry me down the hill!!

I wonder if they got the idea from a snow mobile's rear suspension. Suppose you could take an old snowmobile suspension out and strap a chair to it.
Bit heavier though. $600 seems a bit steep.

This is lame, half the fun is busting your ass going down a steep hill, only to hit every single pot hole and bump along the way...eventually flying face first off of the thing.

Exactly, nothing like having your sled bounce you 30 feet into a tree...
