Alienware Confirms Upcoming Area-51 m15x and m17x Laptops
Posted by Wilson Rothman at 1:38 AM on November 17, 2007
Crave just uncovered the meaning of the weird Alienware emails we've been getting, obliquely worded invitations to a November 19 product unveiling. Well, the product, or products, are two new laptops, the Area-51 m15x and m17x. The 15" and 17" systems are ground-up redesigns featuring crazy angles, Martian runes (as seen above) and as many coloured LEDs as you'd expect from any gaming PC worth its salt. We'll get some pics of them whole—plus pricing and availability—on Monday, so stay tuned. [Crave]
AU: Still no sign of life out of the local Alienware...

@SkyLab: I've wasted a lot more than 45 minutes following this story over the last several months. It's an intriguing story, and even if it's a hoax, it's an extremely detailed and well-written one.
Anyway, it's interesting how Alienware just latched onto this and started using it. They also had a contest last month that used the same characters and some other stuff from the story. It's gone from their website now though.

@redman042: I just accidentally spent 45 minutes looking at that stuff out of morbid curiosity. Complete waste of time. Thanks, pal, for mentioning it.
*Note that this is a slightly sarcastic message meant to be taken in fun.

They ripped this alien language from a "real" UFO story that's been circulating around for a while.
Google "CARET drones" and you'll see what I mean.
It's either real or an extremely elaborate hoax. Could even be created by Alienware, although they haven't EXACTLY copied the language.

Anyone over the age of 15 would be embarrassed to carry around a laptop with all that geekbling.

It says "Made in China". Even aliens know where to get cheap wholesale goods.
