Agent 00, World's Littlest Jetpack Master
Posted by Mark Wilson at 4:06 AM on November 16, 2007
From the Philippine Agent 00 series, here's a clip of the late miniature martial artist Weng Weng showing off his mad rocket pack skills. We don't necessarily have all that much to say about the technologies employed in this clip, other than we had no idea that strapping two fire extinguishers to your back could make you fly. But evidently, it worked for this 2' 9" actor just fine...(note: we don't actually think that this worked "just fine," please don't try this at home, injure yourself just short of dying and sue the hell out of us). I know guardian angels were recently outsourced to the Philippines, but when did MI6 start outsourcing to the Philippines?

@EBone: Check out Wikipedia's article on Weng Weng. It has tight episode summaries for the series (only a few episodes altogether.)

@Nintenboy01: Thanks for the clarification. I honest to god was wondering if that was supposed to be camp or high drama. Seriously.

@Hickeroar: You should know that my home country is one of the world's leading producers of wacky, intentionally campy spoofs and parodies. At least, back in the 80's and early 90's.

Saw something similar in an episode of the Simpsons yesterday...Bart and Milhouse stole all of the fire extinguishers from the School and put them in a wagon, then pulled all the pins at once. The wagon took off like a scalded dog and roared towards the center of Springfield. The town was already on fire, and Bart shot down Main St. and subsequently extinguished all of the fires and became an instant hero. Yay!

Wow. That could be some of the worst acting ever. Run into clearing. Dramatically look both ways. Run a little further. Dramatically look both ways. Mount jetpack...and fly somewhere that you could have easily walked.
And since when are 00 agents 2'9"?

@tellahoohooo: What happened to MS3000? Is it still playing? I loved that show. "Oooh, the rare male cameltoe" and "Sorry about the old Johnson... and the motor's old too" were classics.

What??!! Where's the rest of the clip? What happened? Did reinforcements make it in time?! I hate being left hanging. Love the editing, that uncomfortable silence while he figured out what to do after putting the extinguisher pack on.

To all those who want to go out there and try to make a rocket-pack out of a fire extinguisher, have fun. It won't work, you'll probably injure yourself, but if you want to try, go right ahead.
Then again, I'm not a fan of "professional driver" disclaimers either and think there should be a federal law barring tort lawsuits caused by mimicry (like the "Beavis" lawsuit).

And for those who want their modern day MST3K fix, go to rifftrax.com . Mike Nelson (along with other MST alumni) are continuing the tradition with downloadable mp3 files to sync with movies. It works great!
Also, Joel Hodgeson is getting back into it as well. His newly launched website is cinematictitanic.com . He, along with even more MST3K alumni, are going to release their first newly riffed movie on December 10th.
