180s Tec Touch Gloves

We know, you didn't show up to Gizmodo today to see a pair of gloves. But sometime this winter, you are going to try to make a phone call or use your iPod with some fat-fingered glove and wish you'd paid attention. The $US30 Tec Touch gloves are meant for using your gadgets while staying warm. Composed of water-resistant nylon and warm stretch fleece, they'll work well enough to avoid blue fingers. But their claim to fame is a tiny silicon nub on the index finger that's perfect for a button press, along with a suede-like palm that'll keep your "slick" electronics out of the snow. If they can also make a vicious ice ball and pick a frosty nose, we're game. [product via bookofjoe]

@jeffj-nj: if these are thin enough, wear them as liners under the Burton's. Both problems solved. (assuming they'll control your iPod/Phone)

@Tek Elements:
You'll need to find an element that will be able to transfer the electrostatic from your body to the touchscreen on the iPhone. I was taking batting practice and couldn't answer my phone with my batting gloves on. I had to resort to using my tongue on the slider.

Is it just me, or does no one who makes these electronic accessories know that business people use them? You can't use these gloves, or the fluorescent neoprene cases, or Lt, Uhura earpieces without looking like a jackass. Wearing ski gloves with a topcoat looks foolish. A phone with a Hannah Montana ring tone works for a fourteen-year old girl, but not for the Purchasing Manager. And anything in a Day-Glo® color will get you less respect than a computer support monkey wearing a "Matrix" tee shirt.
I realize that the under 25 set is more willing to spend/waste money on this crap, but the demographic for grownups has more and will spend more money for a good idea than any 4 of these kids together. I'm tired of being a cranky old man ("Omigod! You're like... 40?"), but show me some respect and you've got a loyal customer.
With a lot of money to spend on this crap.

As a photographer I have to be able to manipulate a camera regardless of weather. So I long ago discovered fingerless gloves. I highly recommend the latest from Patagonia. Keeping the palm warm helps keep fingertips warm, too.

@Tek Elements: Excellent question! Because, yeah, if these aren't warm enough, as I worried about above, then I should just modify the ones I already have.

I'm curious if they're actually warm. I snowboard, and own a pair of gloves by Head and by Burton. The Head gloves are unbelievably warmer, and for longer. Now, as great as it would be to control my iPod and digital camera (both of which are in my backpack when boarding) with my gloves on - and don't get me wrong, that really would be great - keeping my hands warm is priority number 1, and if these can't do that, I don't really care what else they do.
That said, if these gloves are up to Head's quality (which is to say, above Burton's) AND I can use electronics, sign me up! I'll take at least two pairs!

So its just a nub of silicone on the fingertip? Does anyone know, can I just add a dab of silicone to the index finger of my ski gloves and accomplish the same thing? It occurred to me that I'll have a tough time answering my iPhone this winter. I noticed it the other day when I couldn't use it with my full-finger bike gloves. Anyone have an idea of a ghetto solution that will allow this on any pair of ski gloves?

I'm curious if they'll work with the iPOD. The clickwheel and whatnot rely on a certain level of conductivity to work. You can't just use a pencil or something on your iPod, it needs to be your finger. (at least, on my older 3G iPod, but I'm pretty sure this has remained true)

Or you can always Eskimo-Kiss the iPhone and just use your regular gloves.
