Heated Insoles Probably Won’t Char Your Feet

For those interested in having warm feet and tempting fate by walking on top of two rechargeable lithium batteries, Scarpa has announced a new insole (or “footbed,” as they seem to be calling them these days) designed especially for you. The Grizu footbeds have a temperature sensor that keeps things inside your shoe a toasty 38° C, but they also include a remote control to adjust the temperature to personal preference.

Gizmobro update #2

Here’s the latest update on the Movember effort. Not quite halfway and things are certainly shaping up. Feels weird as hell. Please support the effort by flinging even just a buck or two into the pot – it’s all about promoting awareness and supporting research into the key men’s health issues of prostate cancer and depression. Thanks to those who have joined the team or have dropped some dough in the pool – I, and all Mobros, appreciate the support.

Now, on with the week.

The SNL iPhone Sketch that Never Aired

newVideoPlayer("iPhoneUnaired_gawker.flv", 475, 376);The tipster who filled us in on the real story behind the hacked iPhone that appeared on Saturday Night Live also linked us to this video which never aired that night, cut for another sketch. In fact, it may be the last in the series ever produced given the recent writers strike. And it’s a shame, because while it’s certainly funny, the clip is also educational, tutoring us geeks in advanced punch ‘n run techniques. Do we smell a new chapter in Jason Chen’s iPhone book? We certainly hope so.

Coby Recalls 12,000 Units, Admits Fire is Bad

Low End Theory megastar Coby has just announced a recall for approximately 12,000 of their DVD/CD/MP3 player/TV tuner units. The affected models are the TF-DVD170 and the TF-DVD176, which sold for between $140 and $170 over the last couple of years.

Wiimote Hack Is Wireless Multitouch TV

newVideoPlayer("WiimoteHackBest_gawker.flv", 475, 376);This Wiimote hack is one of the more astounding mods we’ve seen to Nintendo’s pride and joy, but even more remarkably, it’s really only taking advantage of the Wiimote’s IR and Bluetooth capabilities to create what may be the multitouch mecca—multitouch without the touch. So would you wear little reflective rings on your fingers to have tactile control of your television screen? I would. In a heartbeat. And then I’d call Captain Planet to kick some arse when I’m finished watching 30 Rock. [youtube via hackaday]Thanks Jen!

The Conclusion of NBC’s Hacked iPhone Drama

Last weekend we pointed out that a Saturday Night Live iPhone sketch (that we thought was hilarious, btw) was using a hacked iPhone. We wondered if this was a writer decision, a production necessity or a corporate low blow. Since then a connected tipster filled us in, saying that the phone was indeed a production decision because it was the only way one can show all the phone’s features with the “no service” icon displayed (as to avoid promoting a carrier, we assume). Here’s their short correspondence (that pretty much says what we’ve already told you):

Death Star & Pac Man Get Pie Chart Treatment

The guys over at Shirt.Woot have had some crazy designs submitted for possible T-shirts to adorn your puny little chest. We have to say that the design above has caught our attention, as we have always wondered what the distribution of deaths was aboard the Death Star. Granted, the pie chart in the shape of the Death Star may present statistics of questionable reliability, but it makes for one awesome shirt. If you like it, get voting so it gets put into production. Just imagine wearing it! Oh, sweet, sweet day. As we are getting overly mathematical on you, why not jump for an incredible Pac Man related pie chart?
