Vid: T-Mobile HTC Shadow's 5-Way and Wheel UI
Posted by Brian Lam at 11:53 PM on October 29, 2007
The just-announced Shadow runs on Windows Mobile, but it's somewhat forgivable given the nice UI that HTC and TMO added this UI on top of the sludge. Scrolling the wheel navigates you through the submenu, while clicking up and down on the 5-way. There's media playback on the home page that supports music and album art (but no video). And photos are viewable from the top menu, too. I think this is one of the first WM devices I'd be able to live with.

Ditto. Maybe my boring business use doesn't adequately tax Windows Mobile, but it's been fine for me. Not the greatest or fastest interface, but it's been very stable. I'm starting up my new business and evaluating which phones will go to the partners. I think the Curve might be better suited for us suits, but the shadow is certainly nice looking.

@hagrun: I've never had Windows Mobile *constantly* crash, but I have had it alert me that too much memory was being consumed despite the fact that only two applications were open. I'm not fond of it, but it's hardly crash happy.

@hagrun:
Really?
And, just how many WM devices have you owned?
Honestly.

Hey guys, come on, it's Windows Mobile don't expect too much... unless you are expecting constant crashes and freezing cause you'll get your fill of those with it.

Not to sound like a broken record (or CD, or mp3 file), but yes, this is the first WM device that I think I could also live with.
As I've mentioned before, though, I need to try out the SureType keyboard first.
Looking forward to getting my paws on one of these.

Still looks laggy and has a poor framerate on the moving elements. When will someone make something better than WM and save me (and all of us corporate drones) from the love-hate relationship of WM?

The wheel doesn't seem like it's that responsive.

Like you said, this is one of the first WM devices that I could tolerate.

It is WM. You can have games and other native application without hacking it.
Honestly, can you imagine twice as much hacking news as you see now(for iPhone)?
Just Nigtmare.

My WM6 HTC Touch doesn't crash, it just does things at its own pace, like the little old lady crossing the street. She takes two green lights to get across but you can't really get mad at her because she's doing the best she can.

I've been using a HTC Mogul for awhile and have had no crashes or memory problems. I can run tons of software and games. I control my PC with it and do pretty much anything I want. I can access everything including the registry without having to "hack" it. If I did have any crashes I would glady deal with them over paying the same price for an iphone(or any palm crap) and get 5% of the features. I enjoy my WM6 phone.
