Steampunk Time Machine is a Prop for the Ultimate Nerd Halloween Costume
Posted by Adam Frucci at 9:43 PM on October 29, 2007
What would happen if comic-obsessed Internet nerds remade Back to the Future? This steampunk flux capacitor would replace the normal one, and it would be in the back of a carriage pulled by a steam engine made of brass with leather accents rather than a DeLorean. Also, instead of "Great Scott!," Doc's catchphrase would be "LOL what." This particular example of homemade steampunkism was made as an accessory to a "19th century time traveler" Halloween costume, which makes your "Golf Pro" costume look even more half-assed. I went to a haloween constest dressed as a mad doctor with all these glowing bottles and dry ice smoke, a custom clip on nametag, black rubber gloves, and goggles, and the guy juding it didn't even give me a second look.
Nor did he consider a guy I met there who was dressed as a great frankenstein with dirt elmer glued all over his body and homemade platform boots that made him seven feet tall. "Seen it a thousand times" he said.
I think the guy even picked some glamor girls over some girls dressed as mutant turles and covered in green makeup for the best group.
Some people just don't appreciate costumes which you put actual effort into. :( Glad I didn't spend the $400 to do the TF2 engineer right.

@wolfsingleton: There are single quotes around 'jiggawatts' -- you need to lighten up.
Also, best robot-Flavor-Flav prop ever.

first off, it said it was a flux capacitor. Second, it's spelled gigawatts, the actor mispronounced it. What am I going to do with you people? Would make a badass decoration/nightlight for a home theater though.

@Asvetic: I don't think anyone has a handle on the true meaning anymore, even if it's a fancy brass handle, and if it ever had a true meaning.
Nowadays just slap some old shit on some new shit or some new shit on some old shit and post it to the web under "steampunk".
All it takes.

Wasn't the locomotive from BTTF3 the Steampunk version of the Delorean? Or do I just have the entire concept of Steampunk completely wrong?
Either way, a Flux-Capacitor Grandfather Clock is completely useless, but cool looking.
