Motorboard 2000XR Electric Mini Scooter Will Let You Scoot Your Heart Out
Posted by Haroon Malik at 7:26 PM on October 29, 2007
The Motorboard 2000XR is to scooters what sex is to reproduction: the awesome bit that will make you accidentally do something you secretly do not want to, in this case, that would be commuting. The machine packs in twin motors with a two-hour charge time, tops out at 15 mph and weighs a portable 16.5 lbs. The battery will give you five miles of assisted scooting, but thereafter you will have to do it the Flintstone's way and kick your way onwards.
Still, beats having your battery powered car's cell run dry; how are you supposed to move that trunk of junk? ...My humps, my humps, my hu—sorry. If you have $799.00 burning a hole in your wallet, may we have your cash carrier? Failing that, why not get yourself a Motorboard 2000XR and dilly-dally into the sunset, Mr. Moneybags? "...will make you accidentally do something you secretly do not want to, in this case, that would be commuting."
Uh... no. My commute is seven miles, and if the vehicle can't do that unassisted [or optimally, twice that unassisted], forget about it.

You can't see a motor at all. Which is the most amazing part. All the gas and electric powered scooters have a small chainsaw size engine on the back. The price is way too high, I can go buy a used dirt bike or honda rebel and drive that to work with my $800.

Someone please get Haroon laid.
He thinks scooters are like sex and that a woman's breast feels like a bag of sand.
What's up with that?

(sorry double post) And the old model was about $150. Even if this one has better battery life and more powerful motors, it's hard to justify a 433% markup.

Oh bullshit. A different company was making the virtually same thing back in like 2003-04. I bet they just went out of business and got bought over, either before or after this slightly improved model was developed. The product website even has a lot of the same ad text - "low deck height", "piano hinge", etc.
A kid at my college had one of the old model. IIRC it was called something like the 1500x TranSporter.

Me wants a motor to put on my SkatePerformance kickboard. I would fall on my arse with the two wheels of a scooter about a thousand times more than with the three of my kickboard. Pretty important when most of the time I have a notebook in my backpack, which might also serve to cushion the impact of the fall on any of the rear parts of my body, but unfortunately, it will most probably only be a use-once cushion.
However, the price sucks, but I reckon in the equation [pieces sold] * [retail price] = [food on the table] they have few parameters to keep themselves alive and kicking. Do a plug-in version for any model of kickboards/scooters for 150 USD and I will have a serious conversation with my secretary of finance.

It's as close to sex as you'd get if you use this thing in public.

"5 Miles of Assisted Scooting."
Assisted? That means work!

after being beaten by the bicycle, tricycle, electric bicycle, electric tricycle, skateboard, banana board, scooter, horse, Power Wheels series of toys, pogo stick, and wheelchair, the Segway can now add the electric scooter to its list of archnemeses.

Too expensive, and you can't avoid looking like agen iDork riding something like that. Still, better than a Segway, it is.

@Xenobiologista:
"A year in the making" actually refers to the fact that this is an upgrade from the Go Motorboard 2000X released a year ago. It's essentially the same except the 2000XR has some additional cushioning to smooth out the ride and uses a Lithium Phosphate battery instead of the NiMH on the 2000X.
I have the 2000X and it's loads of fun. I wouldn't mind upgrading to the 2000XR except it is priced beyond my budget. These are very well made though.
