Leopard Line is Ridiculous, Stretches Half a Block in the Rain
Posted by Jason Chen at 11:00 AM on October 27, 2007
If the video this morning didn't give you a good idea of how excited New Yorkers were about Leopard, check out this one. Richard Blakeley caught enough Apple-heads to fill up half of an entire city block. In the rain. Guess they really love iChat video effects. Video by Richard Blakeley

Ordered on Amazon with the discount. I don't care if it arrives in 5 days (w/ free shipping) by then I will hear about all the problems and can decide if I will install it or wait for the patches to come out.

If you have Adode CS3 "generic" you won't be able to install with the old path, you need a new one, good news, Photosho path is ready. just look in the "genric" store.

The blue screen's probably due to incompatible login or startup items starting at the desktop, before everything else loads. They just need to Safe Boot (start up with the shift key down), go into the Accounts system prefs, remove any 3rd party items from the list and reboot normally, and it should work.

I've got my copy this morning, Was installed after 7pm.
But we are talking about fans err... new yorker fans, wait they are nyc apple fans.
I wonder what is worse. that or paris hilton's after-sex new apple commercial of her in bed with a large red play-Doh bunny in bed, inside the NYC apple store announcing the new mac os. That would be disastrous.

all you early adopter nubs waiting in the rain....lol.
i just got halo 3 and my halo edition 360....about a month after halo fever. no waiting, no camping out, just instant gratification. if OS X ran on generic hardware, i'd be waiting a month for leapord right now...but apple has to go and lock their (almost perfect) software down to their (really overpriced) hardware.

I walked into a CompUSA store at 6:00pm. Had a clerk get me a copy out of lockup and was out at 6:03PM. Store was dead. What's really nice is that they have a $30 online rebate, but you had to buy the OS from them tonight.
($100 + No waiting = hurrah)
Took me 1.5 hours to install. From insertion of disk, to final reboot. (Would've taken 1hr, but I let it perform a checkdisk on the DVD.)

Why all the hating? I live a few blocks from the Soho store, so I walked over to get a copy of Leopard at 6PM. There was a line, but it was like 10 minutes or so. Just because you were in the line doesn't mean you're a mindless drone or clueless fanboy. Who did it hurt that I stood in a line for a few minutes? Not me, and not you. Yeah, I could have waited and ordered online, but I lost like 30 minutes on this.
I guess to some of you getting to an Apple store is some sort of adventure, but, hell, I've waited in line for groceries for longer than that.

Hell I'm an Apple fanboy and I didn't get it tonight. Though I did go to the MacPac (an independent apple store in Portland) for the launch. Everybody was drinking beer and eating pizza and having a good time, all the while I kept trying to imagine people doing this for a Microsoft os launch.

It is fun folks! If you have ever stood in line for something you were really excited to get like a Wii or Halo 3, or even a PS3. If you are, ahem, a little older than most, you feel like a kid again. Given how jaded people become, at younger and younger ages, those moments come further and further apart.

This wouldn't happen for an MS launch because Windoze users know that it's just an OS. It's not life changing. And you still can't play games. I just looked at the 300 new features on the Apple website....looks like a Vista type upgrade to me. How exciting....nerds.

in response to mini-driver:
just because i think apple fanboys are tools, doesn't mean i am a "bill fanboy".
i wouldn't wait in line to buy any product, apple or microsoft. it's just the same old shit with a couple of new features, that in reality don't do much to increase productivity. most of the ideas for the features are based on apps developed by 3rd parties, that apple then makes them their own and sells them as "revolutionary"!

Free stuff would be the only reason I'd do a launch pickup of something other than a console, and then only because consoles routinely sell out fast.
The line was probably because of the immense amount of people that NY has, and there probably wont be many "other lines" at all.

Back when Tiger was launched the Apple stores had a store-wide discount and lots of door prizes (I won an iPod). Don't know if they did the same for Leopard but sometimes it's worth an Apple store visit on launch days.

I don't have a Mac, but given this, I'm assuming it's not possible to download the new OSX updates. Is that really the case? If so, that's laughable considering that's been possible in Linux for at least a decade.
