Giz AU: New look + new brain + US comments!
Posted by Seamus Byrne at 5:24 PM on October 22, 2007
Welcome to the updated Gizmodo Australia! We haven't just updated the look to match the US site, either. We've also upgraded the back end so the whole place runs fast like a red thing. Hopefully we won't see any major teething problems... hopefully...
The biggest news is our deliver of a feature you've all been waiting for. US comments! Now you can see what the Americans had to say about a story before shooting your own mouth off. Hats off to our tech guru, Kaan, for this one - it's been a tough task to get this one working. Australian comments will still exist in their own local realm, so your comments won't flow back into the US stream (but they run a closed system anyway). At least now you can keep up with everything that appears at the US site while getting our value add local stuff. Hope you like.

Great work, a nice step forward.
Now if we could only contribute to the US comments thru Giz AU ;)

I think maybe this is for the best, im yet to see how it works in implementation though
The benefit of the mass comments on the US giz is that some readers provide further useful insight and or something else along the same vein if were interested in said product
I think our ( aussies ) only main concern will be that our posts will dissapear within the melee.. but ill wait and see how this works.. maybe our posts could sticky to the top ?
I personally think itd be cool if our posts somehow made it onto the us giz.. for american readers to see... imagine if all the worldwide giz users to comment on an international giz.. with lil flags next to thier names.. and more local area related topics on thier unique portal..
i dunno.. im rambling..
much

Nice work. I for one prefer the new look to the old. It certainly is faster too!

Sweet! US Comments! I've always been annoyed about this. When there's been something that I've been interested in getting public opinion on, I've always had to jump over to the US site, find the article and then review the comments.
Ideally, we'd be able to post directly to the US comments but one step at a time. Thanks!

Got teething problems SB. At 7:05pm EST this post is showing 6 comments. I'm only seeing one. I'm on Safari 2.0.4. Just thought you'd like to know.

Wow, nice. 2 hours and the backend has already died!

I think it is currently showing a count for all comments, even those awaiting moderation. Thanks for flagging that. We'll find a fix.

I fear change and will have to spend the week adjusting, but it looks good so far!
Does the image placeholder mean we have to come up with a witty avatar at some point in the future?
