Eye-Fi Wi-Fi SD Card Gets FCC Approval

The Eye-Fi 2GB SD Card that can wirelessly transfer pics to your computer just got FCC approval. There's an 802.11b/g Wi-Fi chip on board, allowing you to upload shots that you've taken without plugging in your camera. The feature's been around in other cameras before—Kodak's Easyshares come to mind. We're not sure about the features, but if this can somehow stream pics as you take it and delete them afterwards, you can have a relatively unlimited storage card (as long as the battery in both your camera and the laptop you're streaming pics to hold out). This Device does NOT work in Australia.
I bought it - am having problems - went to the website and found info under HELP and FAQ, in hindsight I should've checked that first, but no Austr review was mentioning it.
Am quite disappointed.

I don't get it. To the device, does this card look like a storage card (good) or a wifi card (bad)? I would love to be able to pop this card into any sd card slot and have data automatically streamed to an external storage. It would be awesome if the device can see the files stored on the external device. I have a digital picture frame that is not wireless and it would be cool to pop in this card and have the frame access all the photos on my main storage.

@hughjass: @Altanader: There are other SDIO cards that work on PalmOS devices and/or Windows Mobile that already have this function. While not 100% internal, but just slightly longer than a regular SD card. Checkout designs from Socket or Spectec. Not perfect, but better than no wifi at all

@Altanader
Well I doubt it would work on a Palm device -- I think those are rather picky about which cards they support. Actually I don't think they support any card other than the official Palm card, and I don't think there's a driver for the Zire 71. So no, it ain't gonna happen.
But my 700wx runs Windows Mobile, so it's not out of the question to have support there. I'm just curious as to how this card operates; if it allows the device to use it as a standard WiFi SDIO card or if it operates independently of the device it's in.

...HughJass can type faster than I, his comment wasn't there when I started.
But yeah, I have an old ass Zire71 that would be way more useful with wifi.

I wonder when the third party apps to use this with a non-wireless PDA com out.
Probably never. Wishful thinking.

Would this SD card be compatible with a Treo 700wx to get me online without anything sticking out the top of my phone?

I was in on the beta for this and it's fantastic. it's about a 20 second delay between taking the pic and it showing up on your pc but yeah, your only limit is on the size of your HDD on the laptop- as long as you have a wifi router to connect to. The beta program didn't allow ad-hoc connections but they are considering it. Our beta cards allowed about 50 to 75 ft range in a rebel xt(using a sd to cf adaptor) and didn't really drain the battery much at all. I would highly recommend
