Nokia N810 Internet Tablet Shots Surface and Whoa, It’s Sexy

11:58PM Charlie White | No more spy shots for us, well, at least as far as the Nokia N810 Internet tablet is concerned. These pics are for real, straight from the horse’s mouth and leaked out before today’s scheduled announcement. We’ll have more specs for you later as soon as the official press release emerges, but for now, you’ll have to just ogle these gadget porn pics of the successor to the Nokia N800. During her police report, authorities asked her to call her phone while they GPS tracked the location. The robber/fondler’s story? He wanted $185,000 for that phone. More »

iTunes Plus Tracks Really Officially 99 Cents Each

10:30PM Wilson Rothman | In case you only believe things once they are in press release form, you’ll be happy to hear that Apple’s official statement re-confirms what we already confirmed yesterday: iTunes Plus DRM-free tracks will now cost 99-cents across the board. Like some of you commenters have already pointed out, competition is a sweet thing indeed. UPDATE: According to Phil at Apple 2.0, “The Upgrade My Library feature…is still charging existing customers 30% extra for DRM-free songs.” So keep an eye on that. [Apple] More »

Wiiwiiwiiwii Converts Wiimote Into a Beautiful Musical Instrument

8:00PM Jesus Diaz | A group of four students got a few Wiimotes and transformed them into a musical instrument. While we’ve seen other music mods in the past, this is a completely different beast. It uses a Mac interface to control the input and generate the sound, using Propellerheads Reason, and a Windows PC to visualize the instrument actions in real time. The instrument can do all kinds of things, from single-note percussion to multiple Wiimotes for melodic chords, loops and note bursts. Another demo video after the jump. More »

WaterHobo Automated Watergun with Infrared Camera and Motion Detector

7:40PM Jesus Diaz | The WaterHobo is a fully automated system that uses an infrared-capable videocamera, a PC and custom software written in C# to search and destroy garden pests. Well, actually, just humans. And it doesn’t destroy them either, it uses water to dissuade people from using its inventor’s yard as the path to a common swimming pool. The current version can even be operated through a remote client using a joystick. The best thing, however, is the automated “Holy Hand Grenade mode.” Its creator is now working on a new version, hopefully with lasers or death rays. [Waterhobo] More »

Japanese Can Now Live in Baria’s Soccer Ball Home

7:33PM Haroon Malik | In case you were unaware; Japan is awesome. Adding to the cool by a factor of a soccer ball shaped dwelling is Baria’s Soccer Ball Home—living like no other. The unorthodox abode is constructed from 32 panels of steel reinforced, glass fiber fabric and is available in whatever colour you choose. (Color like no other?—I don’t know how I do it). Each 32 panel structure functions as one living space and multiple “balls” can be fitted together to create a whole system of rooms, eventually forming a house that looks like its main architect was a either a 12-year-old or a class A, narcotics abusing designer. iPod Deathclock Tells You When Your Musical Friend Is Going to Die

6:58PM Jesus Diaz | With new iPods hot out of the oven, I’ve been asking myself: Is it worthy to upgrade to the iPod classic now? Should I wait until an iPod touch with massive storage comes out to replace my aging iPod video? Well, who cares about that when my iPod is going to be dead in 5 days, 12 hours, 54 minutes and 26 seconds? At least that’s what the iPod Deathclock says, a website which asks for your serial number and usage habits to tell you when your iPod is going to die. It uses a set of sophisticated algorithms. Or maybe some random math. I don’t know. I don’t really care: I would smash my iPod with a hammer for a 120GB touch in a second. [iPod Deathclock] More »
