Because of Microsoft Vista Lameness, Windows XP to Stay On Sale for Five Extra Months

vista_lame.jpgPoor Microsoft Windows Vista. So many people think it sucks that Microsoft has extended the life of the ancient but stalwart Windows XP, originally scheduled to stop shipping in January 2008. Now the company will extend XP’s sales life until the end of June 2008, and will keep those boxes of software flowing to “emerging markets” through June 2010. Of course, Microsoft spokesflacks didn’t mention anything about Vista’s suckage, instead insisting that “there are some customers who need a little more time to make the switch.” Yeah. We’ve dipped a toe or two into Vista here and there, and except for its pretty Aero interface it didn’t really offer much of an advantage over Windows XP. So we stay nestled in the sturdy, comfortable embrace of XP, the OS on which this post you’re reading was written, and which for us has been rock solid since its debut in 2001.

Little did we realise that Vista would be such an unpopular upgrade and lame performer, sales-wise and also in the speed and efficiency department. But we hold out hope that the upcoming SP1 (Service Pack 1), now in private beta, might offer some solace. Come on Microsoft, at least get rid of all those nagging dialog boxes everywhere in Vista. That is one of the most poorly written articles I’ve ever read. Talk about unprofessional? Have you guys not used Vista since launch day or what?
Hey guys, I also heard *breaking news* that the PS3 is “teh gai” fyi but keep it under your hats plz becuase you are professional journalists and as professional journalists you are very professional in your professional profession. Teh Sux0rs.

    To Summer Glau

    You misspelled the word “because”.

Vista offers no improvements over XP? Have you even used the OS? Whilst you could say that Vista hardware requirements are poor, or the cost is prohibitive – to say that it has no decent features is just ridiculous. How about an unbiased article which shows all the improvements of Vista – in security, search and usability, instead of yet another hyped up media article bagging Microsoft.

    “Because of Microsoft Vista Lameness”

    We should change this to

    “Because of user Lameness”

Have you gizmodo guys ever tried Vista Ultimate 64bit SP1 with 4gb of Ram in your system ? Because if you had your article would be completely different. XP Pro 32bit SP2 can’t even recognise more than 3gb of Ram ! It’s a joke.

Vista 64bit SP1 is the quickest, most reliable rock solid, secure operating system I have ever had and runs rings around poor old XP Pro SP2. It runs all my 32bit programs/games and will even run Quake 3d Arena.

The sooner you guys upgrade your poor old computers to 4gb Ram and run Vista 64bit SP1 the sooner we can get rid of the joke that is XP.

Well to be honest Vista is driving me nuts however one must look to the future (yeah I know with vista it is grim)but I am seriously tempted to go back and buy XP I have wondered about the 64 bit Vista in preference to the 32 bit…My son gave me Vista (he employed me) as it can go on ten machines but mine is always going wrong while his buzzes along and yet I have a faster CPU than him.
I tackled him re this and he tried to convince me it was a beta thing…we have not spoken since asa I know it is not.
So I may get a 64 bit Vista but I sure do miss my XP
