Book of Lights Pop-Up Lamp

When I was a kid and a dinosaur popped out of a book it was one of the most joyful experiences of my life &mdash now if only that dinosaur was a glowing lamp. Takeshi Ishiguro’s Book of Lights is a coffee table book that, like every good book, has no real content &mdash all it has is pop-up lamp that’s powered by a low voltage adapter. The lit lamp, using three .06 watt LEDs, isn’t exactly the brightest light source in the world but this is an exercise in style, not functionality. [TreeHugger via Artecnica]

Hug a TV network: support the new seasons?

Gizmodo AU

We’re starting to see a very welcome pattern on TV right now. As show seasons kick off in the USA this time of year, it seems our local networks are finally aligning a few of the big draw shows with the overseas schedules – instead of the tradition of making us wait six months before we get to see them here. Damages, Dexter, Heroes, and plenty more have started or will start locally in coming weeks.

Are you going to show them some love and watch on TV instead of download? Or PVR instead of download? Or will you stick to your regularly scheduled download routines? I for one plan on showing some love, though it will be interesting to see what happens when we hit summer non-ratings time. The US shows usually take a break over December too, but if we never fall too far behind I might be convinced to set my IceTV rather than my Torrents. Should a major cliff hanger pop up, though… -Seamus Byrne

Tetsuya Nakamura’s Bathtub is as Bright and Dangerous as a Cheetah

I’ve always wanted my bathtub to look like it’s flying through time, luckily, so does Tetsuya Nakamura. The designer has released a wildly-painted bathroom set that includes a pair of sinks, a tub, a step for a stairwell and a decorative column. The units are all made from sculpted fiber-reinforced plastic and will almost definitely attract wild animals.

Sweet Rogue-ish game for your mobile

Gizmodo AU

Logan at Kotaku AU shares this link to a great time waster suited to most any mobile. Called ‘Dweller’, it’s a Rogue / Nethack style game that should beat the hell out of your umpteenth run at Tetris, Minigolf or Snakes. Not that they’re bad – they’re good. But we all need to mix it up now and then, and Dweller sounds like a great way to accidentally miss your bus stop. -Seamus Byrne [Dweller via Kotaku AU]

Reader Derek Jenkins was disappointed that he couldn’t find a good unboxing of the very sexy Fujitsu U1010 UMPC. So he bought one and did it himself. How can we dony such commitment to the demands of unboxing tech pr0n?

A few of his findings on the local release: - No leather flip case for APAC, but a neoprene slip case - Battery real world about 2h 25m - Wi-Fi sensitivity is kick ass

Check out his full take over at his Facebook gallery [Fujitsu U1010 unboxing]

WiiMote Lightsaber Game Finally Here

There’s going to be something else you’ll get besides slightly lousier graphics when you purchase Star Wars: The Force Unleashed on the Wii instead of Xbox 360 or PS3: a lightsaber mode. LucasArts developers just announced that they’re adding a Duel Mode into the game, which lets WiiMote users use their sword just as Miyamoto intended—to cut off people’s hands and make declarations about their parentage. How well the rest of the game holds up with these controls is almost irrelevant if LucasArts can deliver this WiiMote control correctly. Here’s hoping. [Kotaku]
