89% of Americans Want Texting While Driving Outlawed

11:58PM Seamus Byrne | According to a 2,049-person poll, demographically weighted proportionally to the US, 89% of adults think that text messenging while driving is “distracting, dangerous, and should be outlawed.” So how many of those polled text and drive anyway? AU: I know driving and talking on a mobile is illegal here. Was texting part of that same ban? ie, was it ‘mobile phone use’? Or is it still technically legal to txt and drive? I generally turn my phone off while I’m in the car. Makes for some nice tunes time. -SB More »

11:37PM Seamus Byrne | Hello Kitty. Phone Charger. Cheeks go red when phone is charged. Silly cutesy for $8. Japan. Yes, I think it’s some kind of love-hate relationship too. Wait, hold on, let me check it. Nah, it’s just hate-hate. Sorry about that. [Ascii] More »

Hello Kitty Used to Punish Thai Police (YES!)

9:30PM Seamus Byrne | Policemen in Thailand who commit minor transgressions, such as parking in the wrong spot or arriving late for work, are to be punished by the High Priestess of Pink Tat – yes, Hello Kitty. Does it involve BDSM gear Kitty? Brit-Spanking Kitty? No, it’s even worse. This must be the first time Sanrio’s nauseous invention will be doing something useful (apart from humiliating kittens, that is.) More »

ETS Motorola S71 Headphone Sunglasses

9:16PM Seamus Byrne | If you own a Bluetooth headset but aren’t happy with how ridiculous you look wearing it, then these may be for you. The ETS Motorola S71 is a combination pair of sunglasses/headphones/Bluetooth headset/opposite sex repellent. The device, which is apparently also known as the O ROKR Pro, has buttons on the frame which let you control a music player. It can charge over an optional USB cable, and there is no word on price or launch date yet. I’m hoping for too much, and never. [Mobile Whack] More »

Sony Recalls 350,000 Razor-Sharp Cameras

8:11PM Seamus Byrne | Sony has announced the recall of 350,000 digital cameras which have the potential to cut and scratch users. The adhesive holding down the metal case is failing occasionally, causing dangerous sharp edges to lift up. 30 people have already been injured, prompting the Japan and US recall. Read on to see the failing models. The Cyber-shot DSC-T5 is the affected model, specifically those with serial numbers between 3500001 and 3574100. Sony have said that they will cover parts and shipping, which is the least they can do for selling people cameras that could cut their hands or face. Sony were affected in previous months by large numbers of laptop battery recalls, so this will come as a doubly large blow to them. [The Register] More »

The Stand Umbrella, Umbrella with Stand

7:42PM Seamus Byrne | The Stand Umbrella is a simple idea – an umbrella that stands up by itself. Come in from the rain, and you can stand it up in the corner, where it will dry off and be out of the way. It’s three small feet don’t affect how you use it, but really come in handy when you’re not.
