Panasonic HDC-SX5 Records Full HD on DVD-R, SDHC

The new Panasonic HDC-SX5 may be less sexy than the tiny-wee HDC-SD5, but in addition to the same optical image stabiliser, Leica Dicomar lenses and 30fps Full HD 1920x 1080 in SD and SDHC cards recording, it can also capture to double-layer DVD-R discs. Price and specs after the jump.

Panasonic HDC-SD5 World’s Smallest 3CCD Full HD Camcorder

Panasonic is claiming today the lightweight world title for the smallest 3CCD Full HD camera with their HDC-SD5. Looking at its 2.6 x 2.6 x 5.3-inch 0.75-pound package, it seems they may be right. In any case, coupled with its 1920×1080 30fps recording on SD or SDHC cards, revamped image stabilisation system and Leica Dicomar lenses, the HDC-SD5 is one of the sexiest camcorders in a while. Sony. Experience More: party night

Gizmodo AU

So the big Sony. Experience More party was on Friday night, and by all accounts there was quite a Gizmodo crew on the scene. I managed to drag myself down there to catch the action, and all up it made for a good night out. A tag with my name on it wasn’t there, so I was rather incognito – though in my jetlag haze it was probably a good thing as I would have come off as a crazy person.

I managed to nab some pics with a phone after forgetting my camera (again, I blame the jetlag). Jump the moat to see the pics and my take on a few of the featured attractions. Highlight? Had to be the little OLED TVs, though everyone wished they had a price tag, however crazy it may have been.

Hope those who made it along had a good night!

TPG close to launch on ‘naked’ DSL

Gizmodo AU

We heard new plans from Virgin last week for their HSDPA-based phone + broadband boxes, and TPG also threw down some good news for the “I don’t want no stinkin’ landline” brigade. Over on the Whirlpool forums, a TPG rep announced they want to introduce two naked DSL plans. Lovely naked ladies not included, except here now and then when we get the lamest excuses – next time we’ll run a guy with ripped abs, okay?

From the forum:

TPG would like to introduce ADSL2+ ULL plans.

ULL Plan includes data line and customers don’t have to subscribe Telstra copper line.

ADSL2+ All in One Basic | 25GB* (18 Peak+ 7 Off Peak) | $59.99 ADSL2+ All in One Super | 150GB* (35 Peak+ 115 Off Peak) | $79.99

*Speeds will be shaped to 64k/64k when download quota is reached.

Your opinion would be greatly appreciated.

Needless to say opinion is being shared. All I can say is I’m moving house very soon and I hope this goes live before I’m in need of a new hook up. -Seamus Byrne

Microsoft’s Local SUV Armada vs Google Streetview Fleet

Microsoft’s Windows Live Local armada is striking back against Google’s Streetview fleet with all the technological terror they can find. Check this Chevy Tahoe’s intimidating top: six huge cameras, two GPS antennas and what could be a laser rangefinder on top, all connected with giant cables. Google’s gear may not be as impressive, and there’s a fair chance the Chevy SUVs could cream the Colbalt in a head on collision. You know, if it ever came to vehicle on vehicle battle. galleryPost('microsoftmaptruck', 4, 'Microsoft Map Truck');

Regomate: RTA approved rego label holder

Gizmodo AU

Sick of scraping the crap off your windscreen each year when you update your rego? Regomate is a clever little sleeve that lets you slip the old one out and the new one in each year sans the trauma of getting every last scrap off the glass. The best of it is they have even gone to the trouble of getting RTA approval, so you won’t cop any fines for trying to be nice to your front window.

Some of you will suggest the task is just a few minutes once a year. Others will call troll for suchk remarks. Ultimately, it is only $4.95 + $1.95 per refill. Spend the price of that beer you didn’t drink when you were driving on the weekend!

Dell Promotes Their Laptops With Toshiba Destruction

Dell’s new promotion of their Latitude XT tablet PC is gets personal—claiming frustration with bad tablets, they saw Toshiba’s competing M400 in half. We’re not sure how, if at all, Toshiba plans to retaliate. But we humbly suggest the use of eggs, toilet paper and a half-broken bottle of Jack when proceeding. Thanks Matt!

Breakfast Wrap: Best of the weekend

Gizmodo AU

Good Morning Giz AU! Nice to be home. Thanks a truckload to Jenneth for holding the fort last week, too. Hope you all took something from having a woman around the place for a while. And now, back to your regularly scheduled programming…

Breakfast Wrap turned up on Saturday, too. As a parting gift, Jen helped make sense after a big Friday night of Giz.

MIT harness the power of shopping mall zombies. If our feet end up driving the power for the shops, will they pass cost savings onto us consumers? Hmmm?

Virgin launches 3G-based phone and broadband service for the home. Hip! Hip! Hooray for more options!

Toshiba’s UWB wireless laptop dock. Docking at home without actually plugging in? A little fluffy slice of heaven!

YouTube to auto block content very soon. By ‘the fall’. How appropriate.

Best Space Walks in History. These photos totally give me the heebie jeebies.

First device for viewing living biological cells. You’d think they’d already done this. So it’s a pretty serious breakthrough.

A Video of the New Joker Semi!

Remember that badass Joker semi we showed you a few days ago? Here’s some video of his ride, but it’s a bit of a spoiler for those who want to be completely surprised when good triumphs over evil, and the Joker destroys Batman in The Dark Night. Oh, and hit the jump for a bonus shot of the carnage.

AU: I’ve bumped all pics and the clip to below the jump for the sake of those particularly sensitive to spoilers. -Seamus Byrne
