This just in: companies are still releasing mobiles that aren’t the iPhone. Hard to comprehend, I know, but bear with me. Sony Ericsson has just launched the W660i Walkman phone, and while it doesn’t offer anything ground-breaking or exceptionally different, it’s pretty darn attractive and has all the features you’d expect in a mid-range mobile.
• Classic design with tactile finish • Walkman® player with support for album art • TrackID™ music recognition • FM radio with RDS • 2.0 megapixel camera • 3G technology for high speed download and websurfing • Up to 25 hours of music listening • Bluetooth™ Audio streaming
Australians are pretty used to getting their wallets raped when buying electronics, especially when compared to prices in the US, Hong Kong and China. But according to the latest CommSec iPod index, we’re not so bad off after all.
The index tracks the price of the 2GB iPod nano, and of the 52 countries included, Australia is ranked as the eight-cheapest. Brazilians are worst off; compared to the $199 that Australians pay for the 2GB nano, our South American cousins have to fork out $439.59AUD. iPod Index Shows Australians Do Better Than Brazilians [SMH]-Jenneth Orantia

Hitachi may not be a big name in GPS, but the company has gone and taken TomTom and Garmin to school with the MMP-501B, its latest GPS device with a massive five-inch display.
Like most other high-end PNDs, the 501B has text-to-speech functionality for reading out street names and addresses, can play MP3 and MP4 files from the 256MB memory or SD card and hands-free via Bluetooth.
Quite a few goodies were announced at Hitachi Australia’s Roadshow earlier this week, including three new camcorders – two of them recording to DVD and the other a follow-up to Hitachi’s first hybrid DVD/HDD camcorder. I’m a bit underwhelmed with the offering, though. No HD recording, and only 30GB for the hard drive model? The latter isn’t such a big deal as it doesn’t record in HD anyway, but camaaaan, Sony’s already released a 100GB HD camcorder!
Wired has got a quickie review of the new Sony PSP, and as expected, not a lot has changed from the original console. It’s a bit lighter and thinner, limited colour choices and component TV out. Hands On With Sony’s New Slim PSP 2 [Wired]-Jenneth Orantia

A product of Leading Edge Development and the fuRo center of Chiba Institute of Design, the ‘bot can move in six mysterious ways, including going forward, sideways, up steps and slopes – and if you ask nicely, it’ll spin around. Clover Moore, Lord Mayer of Sydney, has spoken out about the use of subwoofers in apartments due to complaints of doof-doof-related illness.
“She says the low frequency noise caused vibrations and sensations within her body beyond the noise levels themselves, and that she suffered a series of associated health concerns including heart palpitations, nausea and vomiting, and inflammation of skin and other organs,” she said.

Yesterday, at Denon’s line show in Jersey City, three pairs of noise-isolating earphones and three pairs of updated performance over-the-ear headphones were on display. However, they were not part of the presentation and there were no press releases. They’re nice looking, and nice sounding, so I did some digging for more information, which you can check out after the jump. galleryPost('DenonHeadphones2007', 4, 'Denon Headphones 2007');
