iPhone Shopping Bag Sells for $305 on eBay

11:48PM July 5, 2007 | Seamus Byrne

Our jaws collectively dropped when we saw this iPhone carrying bag which was about to sell for $305 on eBay. It’s a shopping bag, folks. Sure, it’s more like an open-ended box than a mere shopping bag, and we were in pretty impressed with it, but $305? WTF? we haven’t seen this kind of insanity since Beatlemania. See the winning bid, after the jump. More »

Nintendo DS Adult Face-Training Will Come With a Camera, Botox Coupon*

11:38PM July 5, 2007 | Seamus Byrne

It seems that Nintendo have developed a camera for its DS system – although it will not be built-in to the portable console. Gaming company Intelligent Systems is developing a game called Adult Face Training, which teaches people the discipline of facial exercises. And do you know what? I think this one is for the lay-deez…

Adult Face Training, or Otona no DS Kao Training, as it is known in Japan, is being endorsed by facial exercise guru Fumiko Inudo. It is expected to come in packaging very similar to the kind of stuff that make-up comes in. As well as the camera, which connects to the DS’s GBA port, the game will come with a stand that you prop the Nintendo up on, making it look like a mirror.

This game, launching in August, won’t just attract the better sex, though. I’m looking forward to the Wi-Fi gurning competitions that will no doubt become crazy-popular as soon as it launches, and the sight of suited and booted men throwing crazy face-aches on the subway each morning.

Apple Applies for Patent for Simplified Mobile with Click Wheel

11:30PM July 5, 2007 | Seamus Byrne

You might be looking at plans for the iPhone nano. Here’s a patent application by Apple, dated today, that shows a simplified input pad with numbers on it, and it could conceivably be a simple follow-on to the iPhone. The touchpad “displays graphical elements to indicate input areas of the touchpad,” and as you can see, it displays those symbols in a circular arrangement.

Not only is this evidence of a possible next generation of simplified Apple cellphones, it also indicates that Apple is probably not going to abandon the click wheel just yet. It all makes sense: Apple has a highly capable smart phone, but what about a basic cellphone, lower-priced and simplified, for the rest of us who just want to talk and don’t necessarily need to carry a $600 computer around with them 24/7?

Igloo’s Coolbox with Boombox on Wheels Looks Like a Transformer

10:50PM July 5, 2007 | Seamus Byrne

This is what every al fresco party needs – a cooler that plays tunes and lugs your beer to the pier without you needing to see a chiropractor. There’s an AM/FM radio to fiddle around with, a jack for your iPod or MP3 player into. And if all that wasn’t enough, it also looks like a Transformer.

The 40-quart cooler holds 58 16-oz cans, and is tall enough to carry two-liter bottles upright, and Igloo claims that its Ultratherm insulation will help keep your booze cool for up to 51 hours. The two speakers are 3 watts each and run on four AA batteries. The cooler measures 20″L x 17-3/4″W x 18″H and costs a shade under $150.

Apple Multi-touch Mouse Completely Eliminates Buttons (Again)

10:09PM July 5, 2007 | Seamus Byrne

The US Patent Office has spilt the beans on the (allegedly) next Apple mouse, a multi-touch device with no buttons that extends the iPhone concept into desktop computers. From the description of it, it will be both funky and useful.

According to the filing, it will have a transparent shell with a light source that will illuminate it. The user will grab the shell, reflecting the light to the sensor inside. Then, the software will interpret the user gestures and act accordingly. More »

“Energy-Saving Adapters Concept Must be Manufactured NOW!”, Gore Declares*

9:45PM July 5, 2007 | Seamus Byrne

Still only a concept, Gilles Belley’s Energy Saving Adapter promises to cut your power consumption by ten per cent, saving the world one power plug at a time. Designed with more than a nod to Apple’s white period, this eco-friendly idea monitors your electrical devices individually and notifies you if it thinks you are wasting energy.

galleryPost('energysavingadaptor', 4, 'energysavingadaptor');

Plug each gizmo or appliance into the Energy Saving Adapter and a pretty pattern of lights will come on to warn you that it is guzzling energy in standby mode. If you do not press the button on the ESA within three minutes, then it turns the wasteful object off.

I think a product like this would probably sell like hot cakes, on two conditions: firstly, it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg; and secondly, that you can turn the gadget back on again from the Energy Saving Adapter itself, rather than waddling over to the telly yourself. How lazy can a girl get?

Waterproof, Anatomically Correct Feeling Eggs Light Up

9:13PM July 5, 2007 | Seamus Byrne

From Japan, Feeling Egg is a waterproof LED light in the shape of, yes, an egg. You can put them anywhere you want, lighting up places where no egg has gone before, and they sell two pairs in each eggbox.

Each egg runs on 3 LR44 button batteries and the set of red, green, blue and yellow, will set you back $59. And I hope you’re impressed by the fact that I refrained from making any egg-cellent puns during the writing of this post. Oh, and no chickens were harmed during the making of these eggs or in the writing of this post.

Ah well, at least I tried.
