Gold Man Toilet Attachment Thinks It’s a Urinal

11:52PM Seamus Byrne | Gold Man promises to turn your ordinary toilet into a urinal. When it’s time to pee, just place the Gold Man on the toilet, and there you have it, a big porthole for your piss that supposedly keeps all that messy splashing off the bathroom floor, walls and ceiling. When you’re done, you simply place the Gold Man back on its specially made base that sits next to the toilet. This goofy looking attachment might come in handy for men with profound aiming problems, or maybe guys with prostate trouble that causes them to spray rather than stream. The company also recommends the Gold Man for the occasional barfing session you may encounter, keeping your head out of the loo and perhaps avoiding an unintentional swirly. Hey, wait a minute here. Lutron Skylark EcoDim Saves The Planet, One Switch at a Time

11:30PM Seamus Byrne | Lutron just rolled out its Skylark EcoDim light switch, helping you save 10% of the energy used on lighting, and the best news is that you won’t even notice the difference. This dimmer is programmed to limit light levels to no more than 90% of full capacity, and if that bugs you, you can switch it over to normal mode for 100% intensity. But you might want to go with that 90% mode, because, believe it or not, it will double the life of your lightbulbs. More good news is that you probably won’t even notice that missing 10% of the light’s intensity. It’s a little-known fact that if you dim the lights by 10%, it’s imperceptible to the human eye. Now that’s the kind of “going green” that we like: completely painless. More »

Mini Blu II Bluetooth Headset Gets Even More Outlandishly Small

10:57PM Seamus Byrne | FoneGear has shrunk its Mini Blu Bluetooth headset, making it even smaller and lighter, and now it’s called the Mini Blu II that’ll be shipping in September. No question about it, this is one of the smallest Bluetooth headsets we’ve seen. It’ll run for about eight hours on a battery charge, and if you’re looking for a bit more ostentation, you can get it with those goddamn Swarovski crystals. Maybe that’ll help you spot it when you drop this tiny bugger between the seat cushions. We’re not that crazy about this pinkish color, but it’ll be available in other hues. Anyway, it’s that improbably minuscule size that’s got us going. galleryPost('miniblu', 4, 'Mini Blu II'); So how did it sound, and does it fit on the ear nicely? More »

Just One More Archos Post, But It’s Got Purdy Pics

10:18PM Seamus Byrne | Okay, okay, we’ve given you plenty of stories about the latest movie-downloadin’ Archos Wi-Fi portable media players, but finally we snagged some official press photos of the Archos 605 Wi-Fi portable media player at the company’s swank press event in some fancy New York penthouse last night. Archos didn’t serve up any press photos of its other three new players, nor its TV Plus unit, and we especially missed seeing studio shots of our favorite, the 800×480 7-inch Archos 705 WiFi. Anyway, take a look at the gallery below, and you’ll see next best thing, the 605 WiFi. Notice its cute little kickstand that holds the thing up for your viewing pleasure. – Charlie White galleryPost('archos605press', 4, 'Archos 605'); More »

Sony Ericsson Brings Out New Mobile Accessories

8:47PM Seamus Byrne | After yesterday’s slew of phones, watches, etc, here are a few more gewgaws from the Sony Ericsson stable. First up is the MDS-65 music stand, which turns all of SE’s current cellphone models into a PMP. You can run it from the mains as well as with batteries and it’ll be available later this year. What else? More »

FBI to Fight Zombie Hordes, BBC Says

7:39PM Seamus Byrne | For some reason, when I read “FBI Tries to Fight Zombie Hordes” this morning I really got excited. The idea of an FBI squad hunting smelly, vicious and utterly stupid brain-dead slobs has a certain charm. Sadly, they are not looking for your dorm roommate or my ex-mother-in-law, but for something completely different. More »

Designer Alien Abduction Lamp

12:04PM Seamus Byrne | Designer Lasse Klein clearly has a sense of humour (no German jokes, he’s Nordic) and has decided to shine a light on the truth about aliens with his concept lamp which offers an accurate representation of an event happening with startling regularity. Yes, flying saucers steal our cows, and Klein’s explanation is that they are taking them to Mars to make hamburgers for Elvis, who is, of course, hiding out there. And why steal humans? Because aliens, as we know, have weird hands, so they can’t flip burgers. Mystery solved! The ship doubles as a light bulb housing, with light shining through the ship windows as well as down and out through the tractor beam. And I desperately want one. Klein asks for feedback on the lamp, and it seems ambiguous right now as to whether it will go into full production. I’d suggest sending a “for the sake of humanity PLEASE SELL ME ONE” message if you’re eager to have your very own beam of abduction-friendly light shining down on your own desk. More, and bigger, pics after the jump. More »

DanceDance Finger Mat

11:45AM Seamus Byrne | Like the idea of playing dance games, but you like to keep your butt firmly on the couch? Here’s a finger version, complete with paper finger puppet lady to make it a more ‘authentic’ experience. If someone mods this so it plugs into your PS2 and lets you use it in place of an actual dance mat, I’d splash the £9.99 on one. -Seamus Byrne Product Page [via OhGizmo] More »

Meccano R/C tuner cars

11:22AM Seamus Byrne | Meccano has released a new range of build-it-yourself toy tuner cars. They’re full functioning remote-controlled cars, and I’m in love with that crazy Meccano exterior. They’re really tricked out too, with neon skirt lighting and a choice of rock or hip hop music to pump out of the windows (not sure if you can feel the bass as it rolls on by). A choice of styles too – urban, street racer, and truck. Even if there wasn’t, isn’t the whole idea of tuners is to mod the shit out of it? 9V motors aren’t so easy to tune, though. -Seamus Byrne Meccano Tuner RCs [via Toyology] More »

Robogames this weekend

11:05AM Seamus Byrne | This year’s Robogames takes place this weekend (formerly ROBOlympics – no doubt got their butts whipped by the IOC) in San Francisco, with more than 70 robotic competitions taking place. Sports, races, and LOTS of combat – not just Robot Wars style, but even wrestling! Aussie competitors have often been unstoppable in the soccer tournament – can anyone fill us in on any of the Aussies who’ll be in the running this year? Best of luck to them all. Lots of info at the official site. -Seamus Byrne More »
