Some Intel Santa Rosa Chips To Have Seperate HD Decoder

Multitaskers rejoice, Intel is going to start using seperate decoders for HD DVD and Blu-ray playback in certain versions of their Santa Rosa chips. Now your pewny graphics card won’t have put up with your love of High-Def on its own.

That means no more computer slow down when you’re watching Planet Earth on Blu-ray (or HD DVD) and checking out Gizmodo at the same time. That’s a win for us, and a win for you-thanks Intel. – Ben Longo

Rumour Smashed: MacBook Pro CCFL and LED Displays, No Discernible Difference

According to sources very familiar with Apple displays and MacBook development, there is no discernible difference between CCFL MacBook Pro displays and the new LED MacBook Pro displays. All the eyeball tests so far have been either faulty or just plain wrong.

Think about it for a sec. If Apple’s displays were even 5% brighter now than before, don’t you think that’d be one of their selling points? They’re a company known for picking the “optimum” (some would say misleading) test results and figures and using that as something to boast about.

If you wanted to make a slightly more scientific test between the two displays, here’s how.

Rumour: Apple Bombarding Market With 3 Million iPhones At Launch, Plus More Ridiculous Numbers

Businessweek claims two sources told them Apple will have 3 million iPhones ready for the launch on June 29. This is an absurdly high number. For comparison, Nintendo’s Wii had 1 Million units. The PS3? 400,000. Xbox 360? Around 300,000. So Apple’s going to have about twice as much as all of them put together? Amazing. And probably unlikely.

Here are some more unlikely numbers.

Thanko’s Silent Keyboard Only Makes 6db

We seriously don’t know how you IBM keyboard lovers get any work done when it sounds like Optimus Prime pleasuring himself with a jackhammer. Us? We like things quiet. Quiet like this Thanko Silent Keyboard. It only makes 6db, compared with the 30db a “regular” keyboard makes. Although we’ll still stick to Microsoft’s Wireless Entertainment Desktop series for our quiet keyboarding needs, this $33.17 keyboard is good for those who don’t take typing quite that seriously.

We also hope it works better than the Thanko silent mouse we had to execute. – Jason Chen

NewerTech Releases First MacBook/MacBook Pro Battery Charger Ever

The problem we had with buying a whole bunch of backup laptop batteries for CES and liveblogging was that we could only charge them inside the laptops themselves. This means waking up in the middle of the night and swapping batteries, which totally ruins snuggling time with Travis and Mark. With NewerTech’s MacBook and MacBok Pro battery charger, we can sleep soundly through the entire night and wake up with two refreshed batteries in the morning and still be snug in that Gizmodo sandwich.

The charger has two slots, one that chargers and conditions and the other just charges, and will work on both stock and aftermarket MacBook/MacBook Pro batteries. At a price of $149, it’s not cheap, but definitely worth the price if you need it. – Jason Chen
