Sony Ericsson Shows Off its PSP Phone Design
11:23PM Seamus Byrne | If anyone’s capable of making a gaming phone (worth buying), I’d put my money on Sony Ericsson. Their recent patent shows the blueprints for what looks like a PSP phone. What sets this phone apart from other attempts is that it packs game-friendly buttons (no more having to use your phone’s tiny number pad) and a rotating screen (so games can be played in landscape mode as opposed to vertically). Make it compatible with all of today’s PSP games and Sony Ericsson might give the Nintendo DS some competition. What do you guys think? – Louis Ramirez Patent [via Unwired View] More »

Inflatable Balls Provide Broadband Connection from Anywhere
11:08PM Seamus Byrne | Created by Paul Gierow, these portable, inflatable balls each pack a satellite antenna that gives nearby users instant broadband satellite connection. They’re designed to be used during emergencies or for disaster relief, where connecting to the outside world can mean life or death. Dubbed the GATR-Com (short for ground antenna transmit and receive) the balls can be inflated and tethered in 15 minutes flat. Don’t expect them to replace your WWAN connection though. The GATR-Coms go for $50,000. – Louis Ramirez A Big Ball of Connectivity [Pop Sci] More »

Reactee Custom T-shirts React to Cellphone Messages
11:01PM Seamus Byrne | Promote your favorite cause or just some dumb saying on your T-shirt with a Reactee, an interactive T-shirt that combines cellphone messaging with a customized slogan you write yourself. First, you visit the company’s website and write the slogan and a keyword to be placed on your shirt such as “Am I a dork?”, “Obama for President” or “Want to get laid?”. Anyone who sees your T-shirt can react to your message by texting the keyword you placed on the shirt and calling 41411. The system responds with whatever message you entered at the company’s website. Great if you’re out in public a lot and have an extra $20 to spend on a custom T-shirt that says exactly what you want it to. Try texting our shirt above for a secret message. – Charlie White AU: Obviously you shouldn’t bother trying to txt that number, but the idea is pretty damn cool, no? Could be a goer here I’d say!-SB Product Page [Reactee] More »

AT&T Debuts Slender 3G Samsung a717 and a727
11:00PM Seamus Byrne | Slim and slick, the SGH-a717 is a flip phone with a 2 megapixel camera that costs $150 (with two-year contract and $50 mail-in rebate). Its sister, the SGH-a727, is a candy bar with 1.3 megapixel camera that costs $100 (with the same two-year yadda yadda). They remind me of the Samsung Sync phone, both in sleek angular style and in their ability to sideload music from Napster and Yahoo (and, I am guessing, other PlaysForSure services you may subscribe to). The badass app for these phones is Video Share, which we first saw demoed during the introduction of Motorola’s RAZR 2. While you are talking, you can stream video in one direction as sort of a show-and-tell. (Your listener must have a compatilbe 3G phone as well, of course.) AT&T says its got over 160 markets with HSDPA, meaning throughput of 400 to 700 Kbps on average. Jump for close-up shots and facts straight from the horse’s mouth. – Wilson Rothman More »

All the Lovely Contestants in Intel’s Core Processor Challenge, Each With Its Own Gorgeous Centerfold
1:00PM Seamus Byrne | Last month, Intel hosted a PC design challenge with 26 prototype entrants from all around the world. You may have heard about it, hell you may have voted for a machine, but now, for the first time, you get to see each of the contestants sprawled out and baring it all, lovingly photographed by Erin Lubin. Go ahead, sit back and leaf through all 38 shots. It might feel wrong—but it’s perfectly natural. – Wilson Rothman galleryPost('IntelCoreProcessorChallenge', 8, 'Intel Core Processor Challenge'); Intel Core Processor Challenge [Intel] More »

Motorola Q9h Packs Better Camera, Sound Than Most WM6 Phones
9:10AM Seamus Byrne | The verdict is still out on Motorola’s upcoming Q9h, but the Boy Genius himself seems to be giving the new handheld a thumbs up, praising the phone’s keyboard, speakers, and camera features. I personally liked the old Q’s keyboard better, but then again I have paws for hands. Otherwise BG says the phone has a full screen camera (which was lacking in the original Q) and the best sound/speaker volume he’s heard from any Windows Mobile 6 phone. Not bad, but it’s still the battery that worries me most. – Louis Ramirez Motorola Q9h Hands On [Boy Genius Report] More »

I have a feeling it’s only if they’re using a flash, right?
