It’s Memorial Day, so CNET got into the act by putting together a rundown of some of the Army’s Future Combat System, which “envisions a family of high-tech gear including sensors, aerial drones, and manned and unmanned ground vehicles, all fully networked and linked to individual soldiers” that will ultimately help save lives.

A variant of the wristwatch cellphone that we told you about last year is now shipping in Australia. The M500 by SMS Technology is now shipping in the land down under for an extremely high $1,000 (that’s Australian money).
We learned last month that this same phone is trying to get approval Stateside, so one could only assume that the FCC approval is imminent. Hey, Maxwell Smart, I think it is time to ditch that shoe phone once and for all. –Travis Hudson

Jacqui Cheng over at Ars Technica is pretty excited about Google Calendar for mobile phones, a service you can get to with a standard Gmail account by visiting calendar.google.com from your phone or PDA. What did she like?
Friends at AeroXperience got this great video of Intel’s ultra-ultra-ultra thin concept laptop, the Metro, with lots of footage of the e-ink lid display in action.

This video of the world’s fastest truck racing a plane makes me ponder: Why don’t they put jet engines in more vehicles nowadays? Jet fuel is cheaper than regular unleaded now, right? Might as well just slap the jet engine onto the back of my Civic. –Travis Hudson

We already knew that The New York Times is warm and fuzzy on the Apple Store. But the lovin’ gets hot and sloppy in yesterday’s article “Apple’s Lesson for Sony’s Stores: Just Connect.” How unconditionally does the Times’ Randall Stross love the Apple Store?
Remember the Modbook that peeked its head out back in January during MacWorld? It is readying for shipping, and more details about the specs have also surfaced. For those still clueless what the hell I’m talking about: the Modbook is an Apple MacBook that has been modded into a tablet PC by the folks at The Other World Computing and will be sold to the masses.
This tablet can be customized with up to 3GB of memory, a 7200rpm drive, and you can even ditch the optical drive in favor of another hard drive. You will have to definitely pay for it, though. Prices for the Modbook begin at $2,279, and they will begin shipping in June. –Travis Hudson

With all the USB stuff we post on here, you’re bound to be running out of ports on your laptops, desktops, and everything else that has slot for USB. That’s why this ExpressCard USB hub is so convenient.
Instead of using an external hub, this ExpressCard slides into your computer and gives you four extra ports before you can say “Hmmm, I’m out of USB ports for this humping dog.”
This is a conceptual design by Ye Chen (no relation to our Jason Chen, he isn’t this creative) and isn’t officially associated with Nikon, but it is an interesting design, nonetheless. Rather than having to painstakingly create your own panoramic pictures, this camera does it for you automatically. It has an ergonomic cylindrical form lens that rotates and takes a 360 degree picture. If this were to actually be manufactured I highly doubt it could sell enough to stay afloat, but it could be a good schtick camera. –Travis Hudson

TheStreet.com claims that the LG Prada, a phone we definitively declared not as good as the iPhone, is going to be Verizon’s answer to AT&T’s exclusive. Scott Moritz of The Street says he just confirmed that Verizon will release a version of LG’s phone here in the states. Whether that will be Prada or something slightly different, he’s not sure. We hardly care.
According to what we heard from LG, they claim the KE850 (Prada) will not come to the states in its current form and whatever does will not actually be called the Prada. However, we do know that Prada-ish phones like the LG KS20 is already coming out, but we’re not sure if this is the weapon Verizon will be using to counter AT&T. – Jason Chen
