Banpresto Aquapict Jellyfish Aquarium

9:00AM May 6, 2007 | Seamus Byrne

FACT: Every bedroom needs multicolored mood lighting. Why not let the Aquapict Jellyfish Aquarium take care of that for you?

Three silicon jellyfish float randomly, their soft flesh illuminated by LED bulb. One of 12 colors will tantalize the senses eyes as you go Deep…Sea Mode blue.

After two hours of intense pleasure, the Aquapict will be turned off…not by you…but by an automated timer. Though your cologne is really overdoing it. Because any gadget with mood lighting is pretty much “a sure thing”. $156 – Mark Wilson

Changing Cupboard: Transforming Surfaces

8:15AM May 6, 2007 | Seamus Byrne

The Changing Cupboard was featured at the Milan Furniture Fair 2007. While scholars will enjoy the social critique of the print medium’s reaction to everyday events, I’m mesmerized by the ad-free use of two-panel billboard technologies in the living room.

Note to self: redecorate home with 100% pixel design.

Second note to self: make sure wife is out of the house during project. – Mark Wilson

BlueQ: Skinnable Bluetooth Wristband

7:35AM May 6, 2007 | Seamus Byrne

The BlueQ is a vibrating Bluetooth wristband. Made for those times that you have a phone stowed away in your purse or backpack, the wristband vibrates with incoming calls—which works for about 30 hours on standby.

But the more interesting feature is that the wristband can accept user-created Qskins.

Using the company’s online template, customers can upload their photos of choice to be printed on specially packaged Qskin paper. Sure, it’s a total novelty. But in a time when white, silver and black are still at the height of electronic fashion, we applaud a company that’s focused on offering a product that can be skinned without the help of third parties. – Mark Wilson

While there is no word on pricing yet, we hope that the BlueQ is priced cheaply with plenty of free Qskins thrown in. Look for them at retailers soon. – Mark Wilson Product Page [BlueQ]

New Player?: Zune Announcement This Monday

7:05AM May 6, 2007 | Seamus Byrne

iLounge, of all people, has heard that Microsoft’s holding an event on Monday to announce (or preview) a new Zune. It’s a bit early for Zune 2.0 or Zune Phone, so we’re thinking this should be the flash-based Zune. It’s likely they want to get that one out before the second-gen Zune hits. More details as we get it. – Jason Chen

6:31AM May 6, 2007 | Seamus Byrne

Rumor has it that HP will be announcing a new 20-inch gaming laptop, the Pavilion HDX. Weighing in at a hefty 12lbs, the computer is large enough to house both a full-sized keyboard and a windows media remote, side by side.

Electronista speculates that the computer will feature the new Santa Rosa chipset (Centrino successor), GeForce Go 8000 video card, HDMI out, HD DVD option, and the ability to make even the most inactive WoW players buff up by lugging it around.

No word on price or actual release date at this time. Hit the jump for a bonus shot of the sweet dockable media remote.

Windows Mobile 6 Office Suite for WM5 Phones

5:50AM May 6, 2007 | Seamus Byrne

If you’re still waiting for the WM6 upgrade for your WM5 Smartphone edition so you can use Mobile Office, this is your lucky day. Someone’s taken the Office portion of the WM6 ROM, extracted it, and made it compatible with WM5 smartphones!

Just head over to the download link, grab the file, and install. You’ll need the .NET Compact Framework in order for this to work (it’s a free download), and in order to create a new create a new document you’ll have to open up an empty one and save it as a new document. Weird, but them’s the limitations. – Jason Chen

World’s First Video: Booster Blades: They Work!

5:16AM May 6, 2007 | Seamus Byrne

After having some fun at the Booster Blades’ expense a few weeks back, the inventors daughter, Candice Rawlings, wrote us an email. She called out our photo for being out of date, but graciously offered to send us new media of the skates in use (under operation without the rider dying).

Verdict: the Booster Blades look a lot better/safer/possible in the video. The concept of pedaling while blading didn’t make much sense to us, but now we see that the process more closely resembles taking small steps up stairs.

So what do you think? Would you buy them? – Mark Wilson

DIY: Guitar Hero 2 Xbox 360 X-Plorer Mod

4:45AM May 6, 2007 | Seamus Byrne

Hundreds of thousands of you are breakin’ out the Guitar Hero on your Xbox 360 now (we know, because the guitars are hard as hell to find), so we thought this mod could be of some use. We don’t personally find the fret buttons to be too loose, but if you do, this is how you can fix it.

By cutting out cardboard in the shape of the buttons into the buttons themselves, you can get rid of the slack and clackiness of the buttons and make them harder (?) to press. Hey, any way to beat Free Bird on Expert, right? – Jason Chen

iTunes Single on Billboard Top 10

4:10AM May 6, 2007 | Seamus Byrne

For the first time, an iTunes single has broken the Billboard top 10 list. From the American Idol Gives Back charity show, the Pretender’s cover I’ll Stand by You (as performed by Carrie Underwood) was downloaded 124,496 times as of this weekend.

While I still think that buying a CD and ripping it yourself is the best way to (legally) acquire digital music, this event is a milestone for digitally distributed entertainment.

So one day you can tell your kids, “I was there when Carrie Underwood was the first digital Billboard number ten.” And then your kids can say, “Who?”

Microsoft Reclusa Gaming Keyboard Reviewed (Verdict: Great For the Average Gamer)

3:25AM May 6, 2007 | Seamus Byrne

Microsoft makes fantastic keyboards, but when it comes to gaming peripherals, Razer’s no slouch either. That’s why this Reclusa, which is a combination of Microsoft and Razer, looks like what you would get if Microsoft were directing a movie, got fired halfway through, and Razer came in and finished it up.

It definitely looks and feels like a Microsoft keyboard, except it’s got a blue LED glow and a bunch of macro keys added on. The addition of two USB ports, six hotkeys (three on each side), the jog dial, and the programmable software suite really makes this thing feel like a gaming keyboard.
